    3. Just joined the maillist and got a great response already. I see I will have to go back and do some serious research on parents of Elizabeth. Any suggestions will be appreciated. -----Original Message----- From: Rdvsr@aol.com [mailto:Rdvsr@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2000 9:41 AM To: STROUD, MARGARET Subject: Re: Eliz Winston of early Va I'm including what I have on the Eliz. WINSTON/BATES question. It has never been established that Elizabeth was a WINSTON, but it is possible. These 2 sources do not agree with each other as to father of Elizabeth, and neither have any proof that she was a WINSTON. William WINSTON b 1584 md Sarah Dabney b 1586, had ??Elizabeth WINSTON b 12 Aug 1605 York Co, VA md John BATES b c1598 Canterbury, Kent Co, England d 13 Mar 1666 York Co, VA . had son George BATES md Mary SMITH (from Meacham family site on web) This is not our William because date of birth is much too early John BATES b1598 England, d 1666 York Co, VA md Elizabeth ?WINSTON d/o Isaac. This info. from BATES family history in Libr.) William WINSTON wtns will of John BATES datd 21 Sep 1666 DW etc 4, p.165 It isn’t proven that Elizabeth was a WINSTON. The fact that William WINSTON was Witness doesn’t establish that she was a WINSTON.
