I am new to this list and am sure looking for someone who can help me with a brick wall I have not been able to knock down. I am looking on information on a ROBERT L. BATES. He was on the 1850 census in Yazoo Co., MS; age, 16, born in MS. By 1860 census he was married to an "ADA" (b. abt. 1842) with one child, MARY (b. abt. 1859). By the 1870 census he was married to SARAH ELLISON (daughter of Moses Ellison). There were 3 more children: JOHNSON BATES, b. abt. 1863; JENNY BATES, b. abt. 1865; ADA BATES, b. July 1869. Believe Robert Bates and his wife, Sarah both to have died by 1876. Do not know what happened to the first 3 children: Mary, Johnson, & Jenny. The only other BATES I have found in Yazoo is a GEORGE BATES on the 1840 census. Do not know if there is a connection. Any information greatly appreciated! Thank you, Fran from Florida
