Ellen, I am so excited to see someone working on "Mitchel" Bates and Sciota Cox. If you will take a look at the 1850 Pulaski Co, KY census you will find Thomas Bates 42 b) VA Lucy Bates 35 b) KY Martha Bates 15 b) KY Michial Bates 14 b) KY Nancy Bates 10 b) KY William Bates 7 b) KY James Bates 1 b) KY 1860 census of Pulaski, Co KY lists Michael Bates 25 KY b) 1835 Sciota 25 KY b) 1835 William T 4 KY Ballard 2 KY Sometime between 1867 and 1870 Michael dies and Sciota I believe moves with or follows her parents to St. Charles, MO. I base this on the fact that their last child was born in 1868 in KY. In 1870 St. Charles MO census Sciota is listed as head of house with children William T 14 Mary M 9 John R 4 Bartiomi B 2 (female) With this information I would also have to say that Ballard has also died. In 1870 St. Charles, MO John Harrison is listed as a farm hand on Sciota's brothers farm he is 19 born 1851 ish. On Feb. 14, 1871 in St. Charles, MO. John Harrrison and Sciota Cox Bates are married. By 1872 they are living in Clay Center, Clay Co., KS as their first child is born about 1872 is KS. 1880 Clay Co, KS lists John W Harrison 30 b) KY Sciota 45 b) KY Ploena L 8 b) KS Perry W 6 b) KS Nellie M 1 b) KS Bates, William T stepson b) KY Barthonia B stepdaughter b) KY I am a descendant of John Harrison and Sciota Cox Bates Harrison through their son George Edward (ED) who was born in 1881 KS. I believe that this is all the children they have or all that I know about. The 1885 state census of KS lists them as having come from MO. It list all the children above except Barthonia is not with them and John R is back living with them. She could have been missed or visiting relatives and the same with John on the 1880 census. I haven't been able to find them, John and Sciota, on the 1900 census of KS. but in 1903 Ed (George) Harrison marries Daisy French in Clay Co, KS on the 1910 census they Ed and Daisy are living in Fairbury NE., with 4 children one of which is my grandmother. I would love to hear any more information that you might have for this family line on any of them. I do not know where Sciota or John die and are buried or even when. I am hoping that by finding some of the Bates line they might know this information and I might be able to glean information such as parents from Johns death notice or certificate. I might possibly have a little more information, if you want to ask anything else I will be happy to look through my stuff and see if I can be of help to you. This information will also be sent to the Bates-Digest. I will look forward to hearing from you or anyone else on these lines. Thank you, Linda
