In a message dated 97-09-01 14:06:19 EDT, you write: << Does anyone have any proof or primary source of the following: 1. That John Bates' (1655-1719) wife Elizabeth was a DANIEL. 2. That his second wife, Hannah, was a TRUDALL. 3. That Benjamin Bates' (Gen. 6) wife was Hannah GREEN. I can find no proof of her maiden name. Also I have 2 "lifelines" for Benjamin: one is 1719-1760, the other is 1739-1804. Which birth & death dates are correct? >> I can cite the sources, but not the proof in answer to your questions. 1. Elizabeth was a Daniel per booki "Colonial Granville County and It's People," by Worth S. Ray. And page 37 of 1991 book "The Bates Family of Old Virginia and Beyond," compiled from notes of Aubrey R. Bates, which said: "John (Bates) married Elizabeth Daniel......Elizabeth was the sister of John Daniel; who died in 1666..." In mid-page, the book said that it seems more likely that Elizabeth Daniel was the mother of his children (as opposed to Hannah Trudall). 2 It is likely that second wife of John Bates d1720 was a Trudall since the Will of George Trudall made bequeath to (York Co. Book 12 page 71) "To my loving Godson John Bates, slon of John Bates and Hannah his wife." 3. Per Bates Booster No. 50 dated January 1980.... Benjamin Bates Sr was born 14 April 1739 and died 7 January 1804. He married Hannah Green on 1 May 1760. She was the daughter of Filmer Green and Mary Walker.
