Hello, I would like to know if anyone can connect with my family. I would like to contact any descendents, and of course always looking for more information on ancestors. The earliest Bates document I have so far is the following marriage: Joseph BATE, servant, of Broughton?, father Robert BATE, labourer and Hannah NOCK, servant, of Claverley, father Joseph NOCK, labourer were married on April 6th, 1856 in Claverley. Joseph BATE was baptised March 15, 1835 in Penn, Staffordshire. Hannah NOCK was baptised February 10, 1833 Claverley, Shropshire, England So far I have the following children, but this list may not be complete: 1. Joseph BATES baptised May 28, 1855, Claverley, Shropshire 2. William Thomas BATES baptised February 23, 1857, Claverley, Shropshire 3. Alfred BATES born approx 1866, Trysull, Staffordshire 4. Henry BATES born July 13, 1868, Morfe Valley Cottages, Claverley, Shropshire 5. Ellen BATES born approx 1871, ?Spoonless..., Staffordshire 6. Walter BATES born approx 1872, Horton, Shropshire Henry BATES (#4 above) married Harriet ROWLEY on May 15, 1890. Harriet was the daughter of James ROWLEY and Eliza PURSHOUSE. Henry died February 19, 1938 and Eliza died February 8, 1919. They had the following children: 1. Florence E. BATES, baptised April 1891, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. Married George Cole. 2. Walter William BATES, baptised December 4, 1892, Stockton, Shropshire. 3. Henry Charles BATES, born April 5, 1894, Higford Stockton. Married Louisa Polly Wilding on June 9, 1919. 4. Edgar Joseph BATES, baptised December 11, 1896, Hill End, Claverley, Shropshire. I believe Edgar went to Australia and his wife was Flo. He returned to England after Flo's death. 5. Frank Rowley BATES, baptised November 12, 1899, Coton Cottages, Shropshire. His wife was Annie. 6. Jesse BATES, baptised October 20, 1901, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. 7. James Albert BATES, baptised January 8, 1905, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. 8. Sidney BATES, baptised February 11, 1906, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. His wife was Connie. 9. Wilfred BATES, baptised April 11, 1909, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. Married Gertrude Cole on March 11, 1933. Wilfred died March 1983 and Gertie died February 1983. 10. there may have been a daughter Emily, but I have not verified this yet. Henry Charles BATES (#3 above) was my grandfather, and went by the name Charlie. He, his wife Louisa, and their three children, Edward, Wilfred and Joan emigrated to Canada in 1928.
