Hi Eva, Is there anything in your book to identify this family? I've been unable to tie Nicholas to any of the Massachusetts Bates families, and am wondering if he may have come from Virginia. Nicholas BATES of Danbury, Fairfield Co. CT died 1741/2 (will dated 17 June 1741, probated Jan 25, 1741/2. He married (1) Martha (___). He married (2) Abigail (___), who survived him. Children of Nicholas and Martha, all born Ridgefield, Fairfield Co. CT: i. Mary BATES b. 31 Aug 1720, m. 5 Mar 1739 Jonathan PIERSON ii. Elias BATES b. 3 Apr 1722, m. (1) 17 Jan 1744 Sarah PLATT, m. (2) 25 Feb 1759 Tabitha HAWLEY, widow READ iii. John BATES b. 2 May 1724, m. 11 June 1752 Esther BANKS iv. Henry BATES b. 15 June 1730. In his will, Nicholas mentioned brother Henerey Batts of Wallingford, New Haven Co. CT. Henry BATES m. 9 May 1712 Mary CHATFIELD, daughter of John and Anna (HARGER) CHATFIELD. Children of Henry and Mary, all born Wallingford: i. Anna BATES b. 11 Mar 1713, m. Ebenezer HULL ii. Elias BATES b. 23 Mar 1716, m. 6 Oct 1741 Alice BROCKETT iii. Benjamin BATES b. 7 June 1723, m. 2 Apr 1751 Abigail HINE iv. Henry BATES b. 16 Apr 1727, d. 29 Apr 1727. My line comes through Nicholas son John who married Esther BANKS. There were Banks and Bates families living in Charles City County, Virginia, but I've been unable to find a match. I have quite a bit of information on the BATES family of Fairfield County that Id be happy to share. >Can someone out there tell me why Elisha Bates (son of Benjamin & Hannah >Green ) was "Disowned" in 1837? Also the name of his last child which was >born on Aug 2, 1818. I am working out of the "Bates Family of Old Virginia >and Beyond", and the name of the child is not legible and nothing is said of >him being disowned, except the date. Thanks for your help, Eva > >
