Hi, My name is Colette Kingsley and I just recently joined the Bates surname list. I noticed a message from a Linda, I believe, talking about her Vermont Bates line. My Bates line ends in Vermont also. My great grandfather Sylvanus Bates was born in Vermont in 1812 but this is all I know about his birth. I have a copy of his marriage certificate and it tells his age at the time of his marriage and what state he was born in. He grew up in Ohio so his father must have left Vermont shortly after Sylvanus' birth. Maybe we can correspond through this list and compare notes.
