I have just discovered that my Great Grandfather, WILLIAM E. BATES, had a brother, SAMUEL A. BATES. William's wife, who died, abt 1860, Elbert County, Georgia, when their son was born, was SALLIE (Sally, Salley, Sarah, COKER), and the wife of Samuel (md 1856, Hall County, Georgia) was NICEY (COKER also spelled KOCHER). Sallie and Nicey (b 1842), were sisters. Brothers married sisters. But I still don't know the names of the parents of either the Bates brothers or the Coker sisters. Nicey and Samuel had at least two children; Sarah Adeline, b-1858, Franklin County, Georgia, and Florence Elizabeth, b-1860, Covington, Newton County, Georgia. FLORENCE ELIZABETH BATES married JULIUS HILLIARD DICKSON, and they had at least eleven children. One of their grandsons, WILLIE ARTHUR PILGRAM, said (in a letter I found) that they were "double cousins" of My Great Grandfather, WILLIAM WEBSTER BATES. Reportedly W.W. was raised by a Coker sister, but I don't know who.. Does anyone have any of the above family in their records? Thank you, LaShelle http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/6097
