I am trying to find the first wife of my Sylvester BATES. I think he was born 10-13-1811 in Hartland, Windsor Co., VT to Sylvanus Bates and Sophia CADY. The first wife of Sylvester is the mother of my ancestor Norman Francis Bates (b. 11-6-1839, prob. in Derby Ctr., VT) and Georgianna Bates (b. 6-19-1843 in Boston). Sylvester's second marriage was probably in 1850, so I assume the first wife died sometime before 1850, perhaps in Boston. I found a possible clue in the IGI when I found a marriage of a Sylvester Bates to Almyra Dunham on 1-20-1828 in Middletown, Middlesex Co., CT.
