Hi looking for wife and parents of Joshua Bates. I have his name from 2 records for Rachel and Delilah. Showing mother unknown. Rachel born in ca 1830 NY, leaving a daughter who bares her name. She married Alanson SCOFIELD(his #2) 12 Mar or May 1847? in Ovid Twp, Branch County, Michigan. When Rachel died Alanson m. Delilah, born 1836, NY and she died 12 Apr 1916 Branch County, MI. Marriage 12 Mar 1854 or May in Branch County. Delilah had 3 children, Robert R.; Essa May; Bertha D. There is a bio of Alanson Scofield which gives some of this info on the wives but nothing on parents .. in the Mecosta Biographies online at Clarke Historical Society. Could one of you helpful people please tell me about Benjamin Bates? The only Benjamin I have is son of Fleming and Sarah Jordan and was born 1739 and married Hannah Greenwood. Is this the one who ran the Cedar Creek School? And, is this the one that William Byrd talked of in his secret diary? I have an ancestor mary bates born ca 1809 TN who md Isaac Sherman in Greene county, IL.It has been told that she had a relative in Ray county, Mo called Isaac Bates, who was there in the 1850s who was also from TN does this tie into any of the current Bates lines being discussed. Joseph meyer

Does anyone know of Carlton BATES who operated a funeral home in Kirkwood, MO in the 1940's? He married Lydia WYTTENBACH ca 1905 in Ohio (I believe) and they had two children: William and Margaret (Marmie). I found a Marmie BATES in the St. Louis phone book, but it was a man! Lydia was born April 1889 in Laurel County, KY, and the family moved to Henrietta, Lorain Co, Ohio in 1893. Lydia was the oldest child in the family and I would like to find any descendents of hers to see whether there are any family records or photo albums. My mother, Ellen WYTTENBACH, (Lydia's sister) was an invalid for 16 years in Ohio before she died, and Lydia closed up their mother's house when it was necessary for their mother to go to a nursing home, so she probably got any albums that there were. My grandfather was dead when I was born, and I have never seen a picture of him. Unfortunately I've started this genealogy only recently when almost all my relatives are dead, so it's really tough. Can anyone tell me the parents of Anna WRIGHT, who married Joseph T. BATES between 1860 and 1870. She was Joseph's first wife, and if they had children, none survived. Joseph was born 11 May 1843 in Danbury, son of Stephen BATES and Deborah TAYLOR. He married (2) 13 Oct 1870 Abbie Starr TAYLOR, by whom he had children Eva, Anna Louise and Marion Jesse.
