Have made a lot of progress in finding information on Nelson A. Bates, born 1831 in New York, after he married Serepta R. Parrish in Wellington, Lorain County, OH. I also have her Parrish, Gaylord and Carney lines back several generations. Now I would like to find Nelson's parents and siblings. All help welcome. After Nelson and Serepta married they had Arthur in Camden, Loran County, then moved to Toledo, Black Hawk, IA, where they had Frank L., Edgar, Alice and Adah, After Arthur and Alice died there, the family moved back to Lorain County, settling in LeGrange, where Darwin, William Pitt and Charlotte were born. In 1888 they moved to Floral, near Winfield, KS..I don't know what happened to Frank and Adah, but Edgar, Darwin and William ran a large plant nursery in Floral for many years. Edgar never married; both he and Darwin died in Floral. William moved down to Texas and had an orchard in Pharr, where he died in 1951 age age 80.

Elias Bates lived in Jefferson and Washington Counties in MO in the late 1700's and early 1800's. His daughter Mary Clarissa was born about 1798 in WA Co. I am looking for his wife and any ancestors of theirs. Ellen dandemac@camasnet.com
Hi.. I was wondering if anyone can help me identify how Louisa Elisabeth Jane Bates "Aunt Jenny" (22 Jan 1826- 29 Mar 1924 Al) fits into the Bates family tree. Willis Brooks, Sr. (ca1806 - ca 1863/64 Lawrence Co AL) + Louisa Elisabeth Jane Bates (22 Jan 1826-20 Mar 1924 Al) bur. Poplar Springs Cemetery (after Willis' death she married a Johnston) I thnk they had atleast these children: 1. John Brooks (d. 1863/64 Lawrence Co AL murdered along with his father by Confederates thinking they were Yankees) 2. Willis Brooks (3 Apr 1854 Al - 22 Sep 1902 Eufaula, OK in a gunfight) + Margaret Elisabeth Sanders of Limestone Co AL sons: Clifton Brooks (d. 22 Sep 1902 Eufaula OK in same gunfight as his father) Thomas Brooks (d. 1896 Murdered by another gunfighter) Henry Brooks Sam Brooks John Brooks (d. 1950's) Earl Brooks 3. Mack Brooks 4. Gainum Brooks - lived in Lawrence Co AL (d. 1884 in gunfight in Lawrence Co Al ) 5. Francis Brooks + Columbus Windfield "Sam" Baker (murdered in 1911 in Checotah, McIntoch Co, OK but believe they lived in Winston Co Al) 6. ? Brooks + Neal Sammons 7. ? Brooks + William Jackson 8. Henry Brooks (d. Jan 1920 from gunfight with a sheriff over a still in Winston or Lawrence Co AL) All the children of Jane Bates Brooks were gunfighters raised by her to avenge the death of her husband and son. It is rumored she shot atleast 2 of the 8 murders herself, and used the hollowed out skull of one as a mixing bowel for her bread. This was a very COLORFUL group.
Does anyone have anything on George Bates, b abt 1732, m Jemima Warner, 11/28/1770, d 12/08/1818. He was married and died in Spfld, MA, but I've been unable to get anything on his ancestors. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob s Bob
