Check your email, you will see that another gal has volunteered to administer this idea on her web site. I am agreeable. But, in the meantime, since everyone is so interested (i.e., many responses already), my password is as follows: UserName: BatesPic PW: Bates Site: http://www.myfamily.com/front_members.asp Please refrain from editing or adding until I iron out the details between myself and this other gal. I am sure we will have something going by next weekend. Planning to get back with her then to see about transfer and final set up. I will also be scanning more pictures to add at that time. We may decide to use this website until her setup is finalized and then transfer. You can read my letter to her on the Rootsweb email list. I'm sure that everyone will enjoy a photo-only page for each state. Hopefully, this will help some of us find out who some of our "mystery" people are. Judy: Your site is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s, however, I didn't see any Bates state "photo" pages yet set up. If all agree, I will be happy to transfer my photos and let you administer the Bates photo sets as I am presently a full time student and planning to go back to work full time this summer and remain a student part time. I will send you a separate email with the name/password for the "myfamily.com" site so you can retrieve the ones I have scanned so far (JPGs). These are all in Rhode Island. If all agree, let's keep in contact and, between now and next weekend, roll this over to you. Missy, I think it's a great idea! I would love to see the pics of the RI branch..that is where I am from...most of my Bates lived and died here. I only knew a few and I can't say that there is any inherited trait other than having many, many children! Missy: Loved your poem!! Funny you should ask this now! My mother (a Bates--this is her email address) has just recently received copies of many Bates photos from a very old photo album (pre-1890 judging by the clothing). A few of these pictures are marked with names that we know, but many are not, so we have no idea of who they are. These are Rhode Island Bates (South Kingstown, Cranston) descended from Welcome Bates (1801-1868) and Ann Eliza James and/or their families. We would like very much to have a web location on which to upload copies of these pics for possible ID assistance. Anyone out there know of a good, busy site where we can post these? Is there a rootsweb site for this? We have a scanner and a program to convert to JPG. We could also post these on myfamily.com, but I think they require a password(??) Thanks, Barbara katsyblb@aol.com P.S. The Bates people one+ generation back on my mom's side are v-e-r-y T-A-L-L. ========================================================= Subj: [BATES-L] Pictures Date: 5/6/00 5:35:44 PM Central Daylight Time From: MissyD714@aol.com To: BATES-L@rootsweb.com Do you ever wonder if you look like Bates of years gone by? Your mention of your Bates relatives being tall struck a chord with me. I am looking for more information about my great grandmother Almira Bates Lothrop born July 31, 1829, either "near Oswego, New York" or in Quebec. Wherever she was born, she was, according to my father, 6 feet tall. I have to imagine that was good size for a woman in her day. One piece of family lore that I have been trying to track down is that she was related to Martin Van Buren Bates, the "Kentucky Giant" who was over 7 feet tall and toured with the circus. --Frances Cbbolt@aol.com wrote: > Missy: > > Loved your poem!! Does anyone know who are the parents of Ebenezer Bates born 1725 in Rhode Island died 1816 in Vermont, husband to both Mary Walker & Elizabeth Buck? I thought they were James & Elizabeth Harrington Bates until my Aunt sent me some info that says Ebenezer's father was Joshua Bates. Thank you Laurie
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Let's give it to them! Brenda Am sending this on for your info. Please read all info It contains important changes in the NARA way of doing business and changes in fees and forms. Forwarded message: The NARA proposal to revamp the system and fees for providing copies of Military Service Records, Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Files, and Pension Application Files has been published in the 25 April 2000 issue of the Federal Register. Public comment is invited and should be directed to NARA Regulation Comment Desk 8601 Adelphi Road College Park, MD 20740-6001 Fax: 301 713-7270 The comment period closes on 26 June 2000. NARA prefers that you use either the postal address or fax number to submit our comments rather than e-mail. A complete copy of the Federal Register notice is available from the NARA Web site at http://www.nara.gov/nara/fees-pro.html. The proposed Reproduction Fee Schedule covers a number of items, but the Military Service Records, and the Pension and Bounty-Land Warrants are of the greatest concern to genealogists. NARA proposes three major changes: 1. The NATF Form 80 would be discontinued, to be replaced by two new forms: NATF Form 85 to request both Bounty-Land Warrant application files and Pension files (more than 75 years old), and NATF From 86 to request Military Service Records (more than 75 years old). 2. For all three types of files, NARA would no longer send a selection of pages, but would send the complete file. This would eliminate the two-step process currently used and should be beneficial to most genealogists. 3. The fees for all three types of files would be raised. For Military Service Records the new fee would be $17.00, regardless of the number of pages included in the file. For Bounty-land Warrants the fee would be $17.25, again without regard to the number of pages. For Pension Files the fee would be $40.00, regardless of the number of pages. Finally, the proposal would go into effect on 1 September 2000, if approved. Many genealogists may consider the proposed fees to be excessive. NARA specifically invites comment on the proposed fee schedule. The FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee urges everyone who wants to comment to carefully read the full proposal before submitting comments. The proposed fees are intended to cover the actual cost of locating, copying and mailing the records, plus 10% as authorized by law, and are based on the average size of the files. NARA states that the average for Military Service Records and Bounty-land Applications is somewhere under 20 pages, while the average for full Pension Files is 105 pages. The FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee will be looking at the NARA proposal carefully, and will submit comments as appropriate. Individuals who would like to provide input to the Committee's evaluation are welcome to do so but are also encouraged to comment direct to NARA at the address given above. Comments for Committee consideration should be e-mailed to <center>fgs-access@fgs.org, or mailed to </c> Federation of Genealogical Societies, Attention: RPAC, PO Box 200940, Austin, TX 78720-0940. In order for the Records Preservation and Access Committee to adequately evaluate such input it must be received by 26 May 2000. The deadline for comment to NARA, however, is still 26 June 2000. Posting of this message to other mail lists is encouraged. A copy of this message will also be available on the Records Preservation and Access page of the FGS Web site http://www.fgs.org/fgs-recordsnews.htm> and on the NGS Web site <http://www.ngsgenealogy.org> We need to do this.. to much of our history is in military records, pension records or bounty records.. Ruth, Thank you for sharing your intriguing posting with us. I am a descendant of Clement Bates and of many others in Hingham. I have a question to ask you. From a member of Huguenot-L, I learned that Bates was Huguenot (without providing the first name). Was our Clement Bates of Huguenot descent? I would be interested in learning more about Clement Bates's ancestors in that I understand that Hertfordshire and Kent in England were reserved by the King for Huguenots to settle in when expelled or fleeing from France. Hello: I'm new to list and am searching for WESLEY BATES who could possibly be from Camria. Crawford or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania or Astabula or Turmbull counties in Ohio, He married ELIZA or ELIZABETH KINNE ( KINNEY) in mid 1800's. Children were Lyman, Richmond and Chariy BATES. Eliza was from Kinsman, Turnbull. Ohio/ Does anyone know more information. Widow Eliza and children came to central Fkorida in 1880's and all are buried in Lakeland, Florida. Adelaide Sweat
I am new to this list and am sure looking for someone who can help me with a brick wall I have not been able to knock down. I am looking on information on a ROBERT L. BATES. He was on the 1850 census in Yazoo Co., MS; age, 16, born in MS. By 1860 census he was married to an "ADA" (b. abt. 1842) with one child, MARY (b. abt. 1859). By the 1870 census he was married to SARAH ELLISON (daughter of Moses Ellison). There were 3 more children: JOHNSON BATES, b. abt. 1863; JENNY BATES, b. abt. 1865; ADA BATES, b. July 1869. Believe Robert Bates and his wife, Sarah both to have died by 1876. Do not know what happened to the first 3 children: Mary, Johnson, & Jenny. The only other BATES I have found in Yazoo is a GEORGE BATES on the 1840 census. Do not know if there is a connection. Any information greatly appreciated! Thank you, Fran from Florida
Looking for info on Elizabeth Roslyn Bates Bridges. The only information I have is: B Feb 22, 1880 & D Nov 30, 1947. Any additional information would be appreciated. Would like to know who her parents are. Thank You Stacey Bates

Hello: I am new to this list and am hopeful that someone out there will be able to help with this line. I descend like this. Clement & Mary Joseph Bates & Mary Foster Joseph Bates & Sarah Ann Deming Theodocia Bates & Ezekiel Noble (Joseph Bates Noble is my 2nd great grandfather.) I don't have any history on this line except Savage on Clement. Thanks, Rose Adams in CA.
