I believe this information is correct, but cannot prove all of it yet. The only information I had from the family bible was information on Thomas Bates birth and death dates and places and his Marriage to Nancy, and all of the information which I have on Michael Bates, and everything that follows. The information from generation 10 and on is sketchy due to most of these people are still living, and this was all I felt was appropriate to share. Although I have no proof on all of this information, I do believe it to be true, due to the research I have done and the repeating of this information I have seen. Me and my Husband are listed as Generation 12 Thank you Stacey A. Bates sbates@arkonecall.com or sbates@cyberback.com
James Bates married Winifred Hicks (Hix) 11 Nov 1746 in Goochland County, Va. Her father is said to be Daniel Hix born 1704 James City, Va and died Goochland Co, Va 1735 but no one knows his wife's name that he married about 1725. Any clues as to James' wife's mother's name would be appreciated, Margaret
In records of Old Macon County I found a John BATES purchasing a mare in 1833, and a William BATES purchasing land in 1840. Last week I sent to this digest a piece of prose called Perceptions. It was sent by mistake as the Bates digest is just above one of my cousins to whom I was trying to sent it to. Many persons have E-mailed me thanking me for sharing even though my sharing was unintentional. One person sent an E-mail that was clearly that of person with too much time on their hands as they blasted my sending perceptions. I am sorry if it offended anyone and to those who enjoyed it, Thank you and may God bless.

There were BATES in Montgomery County, PA in 1787, which before 1784 was part of Philadelphia County. My great-grandfather, George Casner Bates, b. 1787 had 16 !!! children, at least four of whom moved west. in the middle of the 1800's , There was a different family of BATES in Pennsylvania in Luzerne County. All no doubt descended from the Thomas BATES who arrived in Philadelphia in 1687. Making the links is the tricky part. There were BATES who arrived in Virginia in 16 something, and BATES who arrived in the Massachusetts Colony early on -- all different families, or sons of the same people if you back far enough. Good luck. I can't find George Casner BATES baptismal record. or who his parents were. I'm looking at all the wills of all the BATES in Montgomery County and then Philadelphia in that time period. I may never find him.
