Seriously seeking parents of Sarah Ann Martin born 1824 in Ga and died about July 1895 in Cullman Co, Alabama. Sarah married November 1848 to Thomas Royal Bates who was born 1 Sep 1818 in Franklin Co, Ga and died 12 Sep 1893 in Cullman Co, Al. Sarah and James had son Wm Fleming Bates who md Mary J. Madora Tucker and had son Elisha Bates in Cullman Co, AL.
Where was he born? Who were his parents? Where was he baptised? Where was he married? In 1831 he started buying property in Upper Dublin Township, Montgo Cty. PA He married Esther Huston in 1816. He had 16 children. He probably belonged to the Upper Dublin Evangelical Lutheran Church. (Old Puff's) He died September 1, 1860 in Three Tuns, Montgo Cty, PA The records and his tombstone are missing.

Hello, I would like to know if anyone can connect with my family. I would like to contact any descendents, and of course always looking for more information on ancestors. The earliest Bates document I have so far is the following marriage: Joseph BATE, servant, of Broughton?, father Robert BATE, labourer and Hannah NOCK, servant, of Claverley, father Joseph NOCK, labourer were married on April 6th, 1856 in Claverley. Joseph BATE was baptised March 15, 1835 in Penn, Staffordshire. Hannah NOCK was baptised February 10, 1833 Claverley, Shropshire, England So far I have the following children, but this list may not be complete: 1. Joseph BATES baptised May 28, 1855, Claverley, Shropshire 2. William Thomas BATES baptised February 23, 1857, Claverley, Shropshire 3. Alfred BATES born approx 1866, Trysull, Staffordshire 4. Henry BATES born July 13, 1868, Morfe Valley Cottages, Claverley, Shropshire 5. Ellen BATES born approx 1871, ?Spoonless..., Staffordshire 6. Walter BATES born approx 1872, Horton, Shropshire Henry BATES (#4 above) married Harriet ROWLEY on May 15, 1890. Harriet was the daughter of James ROWLEY and Eliza PURSHOUSE. Walter William BATES, baptised December 4, 1892, Stockton, Shropshire. 3. Henry Charles BATES, born April 5, 1894, Higford Stockton. Married Louisa Polly Wilding on June 9, 1919. 4. Wilfred BATES, baptised April 11, 1909, Tuck Hill, Shropshire. Married Gertrude Cole on March 11, 1933. Wilfred died March 1983 and Gertie died February 1983. 10. there may have been a daughter Emily, but I have not verified this yet. I would like to contact other descendents of Joseph and Hannah. I have lots of information to share. Thank you Darlene (Bates) Otet Saskatchewan, Canada aure@sk.sympatico.ca

Perhaps someone on the Bates list might have an idea on the following: I have an ancestor with the name of Zadock Bates Holmes, born in Greenwich CT 1812. His father's name was Bates Holmes, who died in Greenwich CT in 1859. Zadock married Harriet Young in New York. Bates married Mary Banks and her sister Elizabeth (not at the same time) I have no further info on the line before abt 1800. I have always believed the use of the name Bates indicated the family name of Bates' mother or grandmother but have found no connection. Does anyone have any Holmes of Greenwich CT in their database ? I am trying somewhat unsuccessfully to find out where the name MURRAY came from in the male line of Bates. The family lore has it that a Bates married a Miss Murray unfortunately no date or place, This is a MURRAY of ATHOL. Thanks for any help. Bob

Hello Again: After reading the message I just sent I realized I had an error in the birth date of Ebenezer Sampson. His birth date was 1792 and not 1892 as I quoted in the previous message. Sorry for the misquote. Regards, Jeanne Carrier JeanSamp@aol.com
