Betty, I am also working this line. Fortunately, many desc. of John Bates have been there before us. I have quite a bit of info on the desc of Susanna & Charles, if you will let me know more about what you need, I will help fill in. Which of their children do you desc from? I am through Susanna Fleming m. John Bates, Jr (so I am bates x2!), then through their son Fleming Bates. I am going on vacation this afternoon, but will return on Wednesday. Please keep in touch. Much of my Bates line is on my web page at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/7998/index.html please check it out.............. Toni Reed [email protected]

Hi, its possible that your Sara could be a sister to my James Shockley Bates ( no proof, just pure speculation). He was born 1812 possibly the son of John Bates and Elizabeth Shockley. The Shockley's operated the ferry across the Savannah River from Anderson SC to Hartwell GA. I have no data on John & Elizabeth or their children. Want to join this search ? Joel Mize
