I have been upgrading my system and programs. In the process, I lost messages from the past 3-4 weeks. Someone emailed me a message with information on surnames they are looking for. I was going to look for those surnames but I am unable to now as they got lost in the process. Please if anyone emailed me messages in the past 3-4 weeks, please resend your surnames to me. The surnames would have been one of the following: Bates, Johnson or Holland. Thank you so much, [email protected]

Looking for information about my great grandmother, Susan Charlet (sp?) Bates born Beaver Dam WI (?), married George Raymond Bullard and lived in Knowlton, Quebec, Canada (Brome County). She and George had several children: Burton (Bert?), Tom (Thomas?), Chet (Chester?) and Alice Chesley Bullard, my grandmother. I don't know where to begin to look for more information. There may be some connection to Aiken family also Canadian. Thank you. [email protected]/Sue Glover.
I am searching for information on the family of one Verna Lillian Bates, born 2 Apr 1922 in Santa Ana, California. She was married twice and had one daughter. Verna had a sister, Thelma, and a brother, Ralph. Her father was a Walter H. Bates, and he died in his 30s of cancer. Based on that Walter was probably born between 1890 and 1905. He was *probably* from Rhode Island, and may have had a sister named Rita. Her mother was a Florence Frasher, and after Walter's death she remarried. If this seems a bit vague, I'm sorry, but I am attempting to stick with verifiable facts, rather than work with the rumors and bits of family gossip her daughter has given me to to work with - particularly since Verna's rumors and family gossip, on the good days, bore little resemblance to verifiable reality. If anyone has any help, leads or suggestions, I would very grateful. I. Marc Carlson Reference Librarian, Tulsa Community College, West Campus LRC Reference Tech. If you will communicate with AOL in a positive manner with an e-mail as we have, you will receive your proper credit. They are really attempting to work out the problems they are having. There are just too many subscribers. They have a tiger by the tail and are still swinging. We have received credit for time not being able to get on line since we are on an unlimited plan, like you. Eventually, they do respond. It just takes time. The fact that one does not speak perfect English is an annoyance to those who do, but it does not mean there is lower intelligence. Let's all be a bit more patient and live with a bit more aloha. So, Aloha from sunny Hawaii. Joann
The posting about aol does not belong here. i would appreciate as a subsriber not to recieve mail with ethnic slurs. it is unappropiate and hateful and has no place on a genealogy newletter mailing. yvonne
Boy, I sure cannot blame you for leaving AOL! Their service is sporadic and expensive, their customer service is lousy, their response is slow, and their service representatives can't even speak English, not to mention be logical! In January, after we switched to unlimited service, we found an additional $74 on our bill, calculated for hours used. We called customer service, and we got a complete ignoramus named Ricardo, who was a supervisor, supposedly. He agreed, in broken English, that we were on a program of unlimited usage, but he then, amazingly, told us that the reason we were billed the $74 was because we had "exceeded your unlimited hours"! How's that for stupid, ethnic logic! Many e-mails to AOL never did get us an explanation, or even a personal reply, but we finally got the charge reversed in April, four months later! Steve Case must be really stupid and money-hungry if he cannot rcognize the problems of his company. As for Ricardo, he would obviously not be well-suited for sweeping floors, much less being a supervisor! AOL deserves all of the bad press that it gets. Until it gets rid of people like Ricardo and Steve Case, it will always be on the slippery slope downhill! Congratulations on your decision to leave. You are the brightest among us! Dear Linda, Since a listserver is used to handle the Bates list, you must unsubscribe from one address and then subscribe to the new address. There is a discription given to do this but I don't have it. It should be shown on the list when it it sent. Aloha, Joann
I'm leaving AOL. Old Address [email protected] New Address [email protected] Is it possible to continue receiving info about Bates? Let me know, thanks, Laura :o)
