    1. Other Bates of Bibb?
    2. MR JACK BATES
    3. You were lucky to find your man in Bibb Co. I have looked in vain for several years for a clue to why my great grandfather, Thomas A. Bates and parents Francis Marion Bates and wife Easter/Esther Henley/Henly were not in the 1840 Fed Census for Bibb Co. My GGF stated in his Confed pension application in TX in 1912, that he was born in Bibb Co, AL in April 1839. The family did not appear in Bibb or surrounding counties in the 1840 census. They were in the 1850 census in Kemper Co, MS and the birthdates and birthplaces of the children show they were still in AL until about 1844 when they moved on to MS. Did you happen to uncover any data about them in your search for David? Thanx Jack Bates [email protected]

    2. Wayne S. Ambler
    3. Hello northern Bates'ers, I wonder if anyone is familier with Pine Hill Cemetery, between Blackstone and Mendon, Mass. There are many Bates' there; some of which are my line. I'd like to compare notes with someone who has visited (or has easy access) because some of the inscriptions confuse me a bit. Additionally; Bellingham, MA---Bellingham Center Cemetery, and Bellingham South Cemetery. Has anyone collected inscriptions, photos, or research data from these two places? I had some luck, but not everything was found. It was VERY hot the day I visited all three places (in addition to several others) and I wonder if I really did find all that was to be found. Let me know.... Wayne Ambler (and kids)

    1. David P. Bates
    2. Here is hoping someone knows Mr. David P. BATES who married Miss Elizabeth "Betsie" GRIFFIN, 1847 in Bibb County, AL. In 1850 they were in Bibb County with one daughter named Amazon (neat name huh?). They are said to have moved to GA, but I can't find them. Does anyone know where they were? Thanks, Darlene

    1. Isiah V Bates
    2. MR JACK BATES
    3. Just in case you have forgotten, don't forget to check the pension rolls for your man. I had a Yankee and a Johnny Reb, both, in my ancestry and I have done the drill for the Confederate, but don't know about Yankee pensions. You may find otherwise unknown data from pension applications and the whole administrative gambit. Good Luck! Jack Bates

    1. Isiah V Bates
    2. Bobby & Sue Bates
    3. Greetings all, Just taking a shot in the dark here in hopes that someone on this list might have some information on one of my husband's great-great-uncles, Isiah V. Bates. Isiah was born in Newstead (now Akron), Erie Co. NY about 1843 and is the son of Stephen VanRennsalaer Bates and his wife, Julia Anna Call. Isiah enlisted out of Toulon, Stark Co. IL June 1861, serving as a Sgt. in Company B, Elmera Rifles during the Civil War and served as one of the regimental musicians. Letters written to his father during the war indicate that his military service took him to KS, among other places, and the 1870 Federal Census shows an Isiah V. Bates as living in that state. He disappears after that census. Can anyone help us out here? Thanks! Best, Sue & Bobby Bates

    1. Bates families in Kansas
    2. Want to share our good news. We have found our Bates families all buried in Floral, Kansas, including some we had never heard about. Two died in other states, but were returned to Floral for burial. Now have obituaries on most of them, as follows: Nelson Bates, born 1831, died Feb. 13, 1893. Serepta Parrish Bates, wife of Nelson, born 1869, died April 8, 1911 in Erle, Ohio. Darwin Bates, son of Nelson and Serepta, born 26 March, 1869 in LaGrange, MO, died July 27, 1937. Alice Jane Moore Bates, wife of Darwin, born 1 March, 1872 in Iowa, died 28 August, 1935. Edgar L Bates, son of Nelson and Serepta, born 23 July, 1859 in Iowa, died 8 December, 1931. Lydia Robbins Bates, wife of William Pitt Bates, born 4 November, 1873 in Medford, IL, died 31 December, 1926 in Muskogee, OK at home of only child, Frank Delmar Bates. Also buried in Floral are Henry Harrison and Hattie Robbins, parents of Serpta Robbins Bates. Henry was a Civil War veteran, so this opens up another exciting hunt for us.

    1. Judge Barton Bates
    2. Harry O. Weber
    3. Greetings from one of your Yankee Bates. My Name is Hary Weber, and I am a member of the Bates Association, so when I see anything that even looks like Bates I dig it out. I live in Lake St. Louis Mo., and the past year and 1/2 I have been volenteering at the Dardenne Presbyterian Church on the installation of an Organ. Last summer I walked through the small cemetary there and came across the grave of Judge Barton Bates, Son of Amdrew Bates who served oon Abraham Lincoln's Cabinet, and Brother of Lt. General John Coulter Bates of the Civil War era.I have some copies of data taken from the Dardenne Church Records which I will send to you if you will please send your mailing address. Dardenne is wedged between O'Fallon MO. and Lake Saint Louis MO. in St. Charles County. Further info on the lineage of Judge Bates can be found in Bates Bulletin Volume III April 1910 Page 11. My mailing address is 12 Provence Drive Lake St. Louis MO 63367-1732. Hope you can use this information. I am a descendant of Clement and Ann Bates Hingham Mass, 1635. Harry Weber

    2. J&V Bates
    3. Hi all Bates family members. I hope this will open up some new discussion and enthusiasm for chasing back to our ROOTS. Most of you in America are very dedicated to go back as far as possible but you all seem to stop at the Port of Exit from the UK when your forebares got on the ship and sailed off into the sunset (USA) from the Mayflower onwards. A few of us are determined to fit THOMAS BATES d 1606, who was involved in the Gunpowder Plot of 1606 into his family tree and find once and for all his descendants to the present day. If things had turned out differently he would now be a national hero, but ALAS. Is there anyone out there who is interested in this connection: We have so far: Thomas Bates B? died 1606 married to Martha ? please email me or [email protected] or myself [email protected] Help join the search, also if you are on the internet go to the GUNPOWDER PLOT site, it is full of interesting information. Regards to all Ronnie Bates, Dawesville Western Australia.

    3. Hi Gita, Today you wrote, "...I would like to correspond with anyone who has information about Bates from Mass. who may have settled in Maine. " Tracing my BATES line has also led me back to MA. My oldest confirmed info is Almira Bates, b.about 1800 in MA, had at least 4 children in marriage with Thomas Shaff while living in Oswego Co, NY between 1822 and 1835. Suspect her parents was Samuel Bates and Sally Houghton, ... Samuel was b. in Brimfield MA either 1773 or 1777 (LDS IGI has two Samuel Bates born in Brimfield,... different parents... for those dates. They moved to Houndsfield, Jefferson Co, NY in 1801-1802. Is Samuel related to your ancestors? Wayne Olsen Bonney Lake, WA
