I am looking for information on Alexander Baskin who arrived in New Brunswick with his two brothers (Born in 1816) Moses and Robert in 1834. I would like to know any information about them. I am told one was a minister and one was to be put in jail however was let go if he moved away (he went to Ontario). Any information or anyone related would be great! Some notes that I have Alexander Baskin arrived in Canada (Saint John) on the Vessel Prudence, from Ireland's LONDONDERRY port (Derry) in 1838. He was 22 and came with his two brothers (not proven) Moses who was 23 and Robert who was 25. He listed himself as a labourer. He would have lied about his age if we were to go by the census records. Alex settled in Sussex and married Jane Campbell Chambers on the 23rd of January, 1845. In the 1851 census record (actually done in 1852), Alex was listed as being 32, married to Jane (23) with a son john (10 mos?) as an Irish Farmer. Jane and John are both listed as Canadians. Alexander is next listed in the 1871 census, now 50. We learn that his church was the Church of England, they are now living in Albert county in Alma. Alex is still listed as a farmer, but is also listed as unsound. It appears that he and Jane could read and write. Jane is now 42 and she is a Wesleyan Methodist. Alexander and Jane now have John (20), William (18), Edward (15), Archibald (13), Mary Ann (10), Susannah (7), Margaret (5), and Fletcher (2). All the children are list as Church of England and the family is listed as Irish. John and William are listed as labours, Edward and Archibald are listed as in school, John is also listed as over 20 and unable to read. The next census in 1881, Alexander and Jane are not listed. Fletcher (12) is still in Alma and living with Charles and Mary Spral. Edward is also in alma and is now 24. He is living with Ledula Baskin (21) and Besey A. (2). They are married. He is now a Methodist and his wife is Baptist. Edward is a labourer. Alexander and Jane are not listed in any further census records.
