Dear Researchers, I just received this announcement, and thought it would interest quite a few. Hope it helps! Roxanne ListHostess Friends, We wanted to let you know that 10,000 more pages of Wisconsin genealogy and history are now available to you at HYPERLINK "http://www.wisconsinhistory.org"www.wisconsinhistory.org. Earlier this fall we published a digital version of the 20-volume set called "Wisconsin Historical Collections." It was published between 1855 and 1915 in order to share the most important archival collections that the Wisconsin Historical Society was collecting. Of particular interest to genealogists are the following lists and registers: "The Territorial Census for 1836 [complete list]" (HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,5850"http://content.wisconsinhis tory.org/u?/whc,5850) "The Population of Brown County, June 1830" (HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,6073"http://content.wisconsinhis tory.org/u?/whc,6073) "Register of Baptisms at Mackinac, 1695-1821" (HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,10797"http://content.wisconsinhi story.org/u?/whc,10797) "Register of Marriages at Mackinac, 1725-1821" (HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,10083"http://content.wisconsinhi story.org/u?/whc,10083) "Register of Interments at Mackinac, 1743-1806" (HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,10952"http://content.wisconsinhi story.org/u?/whc,10952) WHC also contains hundreds of pioneer recollections, obituaries, and biographical sketches, as well as printing all the most important documents on early Wisconsin history from French, Canadian, British and American archives. If you have 19th-century Wisconsin ancestors, it’s definitely worth a look. You can do a keyword search on the entire text, but our librarians also cataloged every article so you can find the best ones dealing with any specific person, county, place, or topic. The original massively detailed index to the set, which traces every mention of every name anywhere in the 10,000 pages, is also online (at HYPERLINK "http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/whc,11374"http://content.wisconsinhi story.org/u?/whc,11374) Don't forget to also check our index to more than 2 million Wisconsin births, marriages and deaths (at HYPERLINK "http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/"www.wisconsinhistory.org/vita lrecords/) and our general Wisconsin Name Index to 150,000 biographies that were printed in 1,500 different sources (HYPERLINK "http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wni/"www.wisconsinhistory.org/wni/). We continue to improve and expand these indexes on a daily basis. Sincerely, Margaret Sracic Wisconsin Genealogical Research Service Wisconsin Historical Society P.S. Dear BASKIN Researchers, I was just browsing some databases today, and came across the Massachusetts Archives website. I did find 3 BASKINs listed in the death records - (Male) BASKIN, Elma BASKIN, and Hyman BASKIN. Please take a look at: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/vitalrecordssearch/VitalRecordsSearch.aspx. Action item for us all! Roxanne ListHostess ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike St. Clair/TT In late July, the National Archives announced they were planning to cut back the hours of the Washington DC area facilities of the archives. This would eliminate all evening and Saturday hours and greatly harm the ability of the average genealogist to access the records. For full details, see http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2006/nr06-125.html While the Archivist of the United States was at the FGS conference he reported that they had received very little feedback from the country's genealogists asking for reconsideration. He was also presented with a request from the chair of the FGS Records Preservation Committee to consider some alternatives and a petition was started to allow genealogists to express their disagreement with the changes and to endorse alternatives that will allow the evening and Saturday hours to continue. You can see more details about that in Dick Eastman's weekly newsletter at: http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/09/quick_please_jo.html The petition can be signed at: http://www.petitiononline.com/FGS2006 I would encourage each of you, as board members of The USGenWeb Project to use your influence to publicize this information throughout the project. Note that the deadline for receiving comments on the proposed changes by the archives is September 9, so there isn't much time. And I suspect that if they succeed in reducing the Washington hours, the regional archives will be soon to follow. I appreciate all that each of you do in support of the project membership and all genealogists with US ancestry. I believe that a little effort in support of this effort by FGS will pay off long term in enhancing our ability to deliver free information to our clients - genealogists everywhere. My husbands line is kin to the Baskins in Lowndesville, but at the Cemetery, we could find no direct line there. His GGGGrandfather Hugh Baskin, owned there, and surely would be buried someplace there, but probably too old for stone to still be there. Some of Hugh Baskin land is still there, but Lake Sucession(?)sp covered most of it. There is a Mable Baskin that lives across the road from this land. Write me directly at [email protected] Nelda

They also had a brother John born about 1826. Their mother was Olivia Loughridge, daughter of James Jacob Loughridge and Frances Reid. She was born in 1807 and died either at Fannie's birth or shortly after in 1831in Gwinnett County, GA. William Philo and Fannie were born in Gwinnett County, but John may have been born in Carroll County, GA. Their father was John Baskin, born Sept. 22, 1805 and died in 1836 in Gwinnett County, GA. Family lore says William Philo hated his stepmother because she made him help with the carding and spinning on rainy days. He ran away in 1843 when his mother's sister, Catherine Craig (Mrs. Adam Craig) was 2 weeks on her way West, and he hid in a wagon among the bed clothes until he overtook her train. He joined his Aunt Catherine and Uncle Adam and his baby sister Fanny (whom they had taken to raise)and made his home with his ! Grandfather Loughridge upon arriving in Mississippi some months later, shortly after his 14th birthday. (His residing with his grandfather is verified in the 1850 MS, Chickasaw County, Census.) The Loughridges and family of Wm. Philo Baskin are buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Chickasaw County, MS. Fannie died about 1860. I am not sure where she is buried but I bet she is at Wesley Chapel also. I have almost no info on the Baskins that remained in GA.
