He married Miss Frances Kirk on May 20, 1837 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Throughout the 1840-50s they had children: Abigail, Susanne, Mary , George, John, Edward, and Hugh throughout the 1840s and 1850s. They were Wesleyan Methodists. Apparently, Moses killed someone and was told to move to another area. He died in 1863 in East Nissouri, Ontario, Canada and was senile. Most of his children moved to Michigan (Ubly, Gagetown,Burleigh) and married. When Moses died, Frances moved to Ubly and many are laid to rest at Valley Cemetery there. I know there are several families that married Baskins such as: Hurford, Robinson, and Morris families. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for information on Alexander Baskin who arrived in New Brunswick with his two brothers (Born in 1816) Moses and Robert in 1834. I would like to know any information about them. I am told one was a minister and one was to be put in jail however was let go if he moved away (he went to Ontario). Any information or anyone related would be great! Some notes that I have Alexander Baskin arrived in Canada (Saint John) on the Vessel Prudence, from Ireland's LONDONDERRY port (Derry) in 1838. He was 22 and came with his two brothers (not proven) Moses who was 23 and Robert who was 25. He listed himself as a labourer. He would have lied about his age if we were to go by the census records. Alex settled in Sussex and married Jane Campbell Chambers on the 23rd of January, 1845. In the 1851 census record (actually done in 1852), Alex was listed as being 32, married to Jane (23) with a son john (10 mos?) as an Irish Farmer. Jane and John are both listed as Canadians. Alexander is next listed in the 1871 census, now 50. We learn that his church was the Church of England, they are now living in Albert county in Alma. Alex is still listed as a farmer, but is also listed as unsound. It appears that he and Jane could read and write. Jane is now 42 and she is a Wesleyan Methodist. Alexander and Jane now have John (20), William (18), Edward (15), Archibald (13), Mary Ann (10), Susannah (7), Margaret (5), and Fletcher (2). All the children are list as Church of England and the family is listed as Irish. John and William are listed as labours, Edward and Archibald are listed as in school, John is also listed as over 20 and unable to read. The next census in 1881, Alexander and Jane are not listed. Fletcher (12) is still in Alma and living with Charles and Mary Spral. Edward is also in alma and is now 24. He is living with Ledula Baskin (21) and Besey A. (2). They are married. He is now a Methodist and his wife is Baptist. Edward is a labourer. Alexander and Jane are not listed in any further census records.
Does anyone have family information on the Baskin family that centered around Pennsylvania and Ohio? I would be interested in learning about them... Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County) Jan 19, 1900 BASKIN--At the residence of James Andrew, two miles east of Longmont, on the night of Friday, January 12, 1900, Harry Thompson Baskin of Dublin, Ireland, aged 21 years. This young man came to Longmont a little over a year ago, in the hope of escaping that dread disease consumption, having previously passed two years in New Zealand in the search for health. Here he seemed to improved until a couple of weeks ago, when he was stricken down with tuberculosis of the brain. On account of ill health, he had made a few acquaintances in Longmont, but those who had opportunity to know him well, discovered a mind matured beyond its years by travel and much reading, and a character rarely sweet and lovable, a good heart united with good breeding to form, in the truest sense of the term, a gentleman. The funeral services were held at St. Stephen's church at eleven o'clock Monday morning, the Rev. Mr. Heal officiating. A widowed mother, two sisters and a brother mourn the loss in Dublin, a cousin at Newark, N. J., being the only near relative in this country. I've done quite a bit of work on this, but I haven't even found a passenger list for William Senior, let alone anything that says where he was from in Ireland. Any help on this would be appreciated. William Baskin of Abbeville, SC. I've done a lot of research on my line, I have the Bell book, and I'm currently compiling a book for a family reunion next year. If you know of the Ireland connection for this family, I'd love to see your evidence. I've been unable to find any record that directly states that the family is from Ireland and/or where in Ireland - all circumstantial evidence so far. Bell doesn't indicate why/how he came to his conclusions on this subject either. If anyone out there has more evidence, I'm sure we'd all appreciate seeing it!
