    3. To start us off, how about listing all the variations in spelling of Baysinger/Basinger you've found in records? I've sometimes seen multiple spellings in the same record! So far, in my lines, I've seen Baysinger, Basinger, and Bösinger. I'd like to see a good listing so I can put it into our group description, so people searching for us can find us. 1. [Basinger] Gatewayed Message Board posts
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi folks, In the past, the Basinger/Baysinger Message Board posts were "gatewayed" to the matching list, so list subscribers could "click the link" and reply on the board if they were interested in the post. Since the recent list changes, those gateway posts are just gobbledegook which I can't allow to post here. The Rootsweb Product Manager has told us listowners to just discard these malformed posts, and that the posts we used to see here will not return. She has advised us to tell researchers to visit the Message Board they are interested in and to subscribe to the threads and/or whole boards in which we are interested. Our Message Boards are here: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.baysinger/mb.ashx and http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.basinger/mb.ashx I personally try to remember to post to the board as well as the list to get as wide readership as possible. The boards are powerful because they are found by search engines, and one can attach photos and other images to posts, which is not possible here on the list. 1. [Basinger] Rootsweb lists are alive again!
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hello everybody, After some months, RootsWeb mailing lists are up and running on updated software. So a few things are changed, some for the better. One of the items currently being addressed is why messages from subscribers are not always going directly to the list. Sometimes these posts are being held for administrative action. This could be because the poster - although subscribed to the list - may not be registered with RootsWeb. So my advice is to register with RootsWeb. It takes only a few moments and might fix the posting issues. Instructions: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail If you had an account set up before, you can use the same email and username, but you *must* choose a new password. If you are an Ancestry member, please do not use the same password as you use there. One of the great things about registering is that you will be able to control many things about your list mail from Rootsweb without contacting the listowner. Boesiger, Boesinger Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.basinger/512/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Well, in regards to the Jewish connection, I recently discover the German town of Baisingen, in the 16th century it was called Bösingen (Basinger or Bösinger in German means from the town of Bösingen) in the year 1596 the town became a refuge for Jews expelled Western Austria. As mentioned above, Basinger means from Bösingen. The process of assigning permanent surnames to Jewish families (most of which are still used to this day) began in Austria. On 23 July 1787, five years after the Edict of Tolerance, the Austrian emperor Joseph II issued a decree called Das Patent über die Judennamen which compelled the Jews to adopt German surnames.[3][4][5] Prussia did so soon after, beginning with Silesia: the city of Breslau in 1790, the Breslau administrative region in 1791, the Liegnitz region in 1794. In 1812, when Napoleon had occupied much of Prussia, surname adoption was mandated for the unoccupied parts; and Jews in the rest of Prussia adopted surnames in 1845.[2][6] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_surname plus this http://www.avotaynu.com/books/MenkNames.html YouŽll see Baisinger, Basinger, Bassinger Bösing, Boesing Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
