I don't think we're related, but I certainly enjoyed reading your letter... (I'm from Jane Barton/Alexander Causey in Posey County, Ind...) A hearty welcome to you; hope you continue to contribute; love your humor. I just subscribed to this list, as I have only started seriously trying to trace my tree a few weeks ago. It's for this reason that I can't provide the specific dates for Lloyd Lee Barton; I haven't visited his grave in more than twenty years; Though, I will be at his graveside in Gilmer County on the 29th to glean the appropriate dates from his marker. What I have is as follows; Lloyd Lee would most likely show up on an 1850 census because one of his sons, my great-grandfather was at about 20 years older than my great-grandmother and I have her documented as being born in 1897. My great-grandfather, Berlie Lee Barton is buried in Weston (Lewis Co) and his children started spurting forth in 1920. Berlie Lee, son of Lloyd Lee was according to legend, a circuit-riding preacher for the United Brethren Church and after he married my great-grandmother from Gilmer County, they moved to North View in Harrison County, where he died and she lived for another forty-odd years. Lloyd Lee had one son who died as an infant (Thomas), Robert and Herbert, plus the aforementioned Berlie and a daughter Hope, who married a Talbott. And finally, Lloyd Lee is buried alongside his second wife (Snow) in the Linn Cemetary at Troy. His place of burial and the recollections of my great-uncle Berlie Lee Jr. is what I've used to try and connect him to Gilmer County, even though my memory places Berlie Sr. starting life as a circuit-riding preacher working out of Weston (Lewis Co). But, great-uncle Berlie was wrong about where his mother and her father was born, so I'm just as inclined to accept Harrison/Lewis as I am to accept what he has told me in our two interviews. As I mentioned before, I'm going to be in Gilmer/Lewis/Harrison Counties during the week starting the 29th and I'll not only record all of the gravesites that I have already identified, but I'm going to try and memorize/copy all of the pertinent records, before my wife gets tired of staying with my Aunt Carolyn. But before and after my trip, I'd like to gather as much information from this glorious internet in order to at least have a better idea where to look; Never mind that I've already got three sets of grandparents back to the 1820's without leaving my study, though I'm sure my bill for phone interviews is going to be outrageous. If anyone else is tracing Lloyd Lee Barton and/or the Barton's of NorthCentral WVA, I'd love to hear from you and if anybody else has any tidbits about the Harrison/Lewis County or perhaps the tree that branches to or from Bucks County Pa; Please give me a shout, either through this list or via private email.
