Hi everyone! To make it easier to understand I will reply inside Christi's post. I apologize if I have not correctly formatted this but it IS set to not send in enriched text etc. (already got it back once and it doesn't look any different than the ones I receive. I use Outlook '97. Any cousins out there?? Descendants of Samuel Barton Generation No. 1 1. Samuel1 Barton1. Generation No. 2 2. Rufus2 Barton (Samuel1)1 was born Bet. 1605 - 16202, and died 16483. He married Margaret Hunnewell4. On March 4, 1999 BBPERRA replied asking for the source for Samuel and also source for Margaret Hunniwell. She stated" in Arnold's History of Warwick, no parents are listed for Rufus and his wife is Margaret Stafford. The Town records also show Margaret as the wife of Rufus" Perhaps I missed your reply which named your source. Could you please repeat it? Where are the actual records located or are they listed as a source in another publication etc? (the info. between above and below, haven't researched- can't comment on) Generation No. 5 18. Benjamin5 Barton (Andrew4, Benjamin3, Rufus2, Samuel1)18 was born 170318. Children of Benjamin Barton are: 26 i. Richard6 Barton19. + 27 ii. William Barton, born May 26, 1748; died October 22, 1831. Although both are sons of Benjamin, I believe they have been documented to belong to two different mothers. I have seen Richard's mother listed as Benj.'s first wife, has anyone researched this? (I believe there may have already been a reply to the last post) Benjamin Barton married: 1. Mary Hale (Haile) m. 1727 Warwick RI b. 1708 d. 1744 There were to be between 8-19 children from this union and Richard is listed as a son. Can anyone comment? 2. Benjamin Barton supposedly married Lydia Brown m. May 26, 1746 in Warren, Bristol RI (LDS film # 0022366) This couple was the parents of William b. May 26, 1748 listed Providence Births 2-90 who married Rhoda Carver dau of Joseph Carver. Generation No. 6 27. William6 Barton (Benjamin5, Andrew4, Benjamin3, Rufus2, Samuel1) was born May 26, 174820, and died October 22, 183120. He married Rhoda Carver April 26, 1771 in Providence, RI20, daughter of Joseph Carver and Sarah Hartwell. I have found two different years for the birth of Rhoda Carver 1. Oct. 9, 1749 Bridgewater MA vital Records 2. Aug 9, 1751 born at Bridgewater MA Providence Vital Records I list both but believe MA to be correct. Children of William Barton and Rhoda Carver are: 28 i. William7 Barton, born December 16, 177120; died 1818. He married Mabel Terry. 29 ii. Benjamin Barton20, born December 20, 177320. 30 iii. George Washington Barton, born February 06, 1776 in Providence, RI; died 1790 in at Sea. He married Luthania Leland. 31 iv. Daniel Barton20, born July 20, 177820; died April 09, 178020. + 32 v. Robert Carver Barton, born December 19, 1782 in Providence, RI; died September 1824 in OH. 33 vi. John Brown Barton, born April 03, 178520; died 1869. He married Hannah West. 34 vii. Anna Maria Barton20, born April 05, 178820; died 1868. She married Apollos Cushman June 21, 180920. 35 viii. Sarah Barton, born August 30, 179020; died 1866. She married H Allen. In a earlier posting, Dana K. Berry was listed as one of Christi's sources.( an e-mail to her was unanswered) There seem to be a few different sons listed in different places and I am unsure of the final count/names of children. Dana lists on her website : William b. 1771, Benj. B. 1773, George Wash. B. 1776, Daniel, Henry, John, Anna and Sara In "Vital Records of Rhode Island 1636-1850 Births, Marriages and Deaths" by James N. Arnold (editor of the Narragansett Historical Register) pub. 1892 listed in the "Providence Births" page 211 2-90 BARTON, William, of Benjamin, born in Warren, May 36, 1748 2-90 " , Rhoda (Carver, of Joseph), his wife, born Bridgewater, Mass.,Aug 9,1751 2-90 " , William, of William and Rhoda, Dec. 16 1771 2-90 " , Benjamin, Dec., 20,1773 2-90 " , George Washington, Feb. 6, 1776 2-90 " , Daniel, July 20, 1778 2-90 " , Henry, Nov. 18, 1780 2-90 " , Robert, Dec. 19, 1782 (listed as Dec. 10, 1782 Providence VR 2-90) ? why different I was not sent page 212 so I do not know of other children (born in later years) listed in this publication. In 1993 I had a professional researcher do some work for me since I couldn't get to RI. She sent me Robt. C.Barton's birth in the Providence VR as Dec. 10, 1782 and also a copy of Rhoda Carver Barton's will. (Providence Probate Records Vol. 1:433-435) Info. found ,typed and sent (besides a "poor in places" photocopy of will): "The Will of Rhoda (Carver) Barton dated 2 Sept. 1837, codicil dated 29 Sept 1841, proved 4 Jan 1842, mentions her sons, John B. Barton, William Barton deceased leaving unnamed children, and Robert C. Barton who has unnamed children", the last two sons are mentioned only in the codicil; two daughters, Anna Cushman, wife od Apollos Cushman and Sarah Allen, wife of Herman B. Allen." (I was not sent a copy of the codicil and at the time didn't care because the will mentioned my line of Robert C. Barton by name.) Daniel b. 1778 d. 1780 would not be listed Did Benjamin or Henry die and perhaps weren't listed because they had no children? What about George Washington Barton? Does anyone know the two sons named in the codicil or have access to it? I would love to know. Generation No. 7 32. Robert Carver7 Barton (William6, Benjamin5, Andrew4, Benjamin3, Rufus2, Samuel1) was born December 19, 1782 in Providence, RI20, and died September 1824 in OH. He married (1) Rachel Van Duyn. He married (2) Rachel M Lowers 1802. 1. Robt supposedly married Rachel Lowers @ 1802-1807. I have not found this marriage and of course want it desperately! Does anyone know where Robt. may have gone after leaving RI before ending up VA/OH area? 2. His second wife was Rachel Boudinot Van Duyn. They married April 6, 1815 by Rev. Stephen Lindsley. (also listed Wash. Co. Marriages online as being wed by Dye, Samuel, J.P. in Lawrence Twp.) The DAR records list a son to this union: William Henry Barton b. 1818 d. 1897 Rachel Boudinot Van Duyn remarried in 1826 to John M. Smith in Meigs Co. OH (researcher- earlchar@halcyon.com ) Deed Index for Meigs County shows a deed from William Barton to a Robert C. Barton on August 14, 1792. Could be the same??? (Vol. 1 Pg 269, Meigs County Deed Index Pre-1830] Has anyone seen this??? Any info. about this greatly appreciated! Child of Robert Barton and Rachel Lowers is: + 36 i. Bennett8 Barton, born Abt. 1807; died 1879. Generation No. 8 36. Bennett8 Barton (Robert Carver7, William6, Benjamin5, Andrew4, Benjamin3, Rufus2, Samuel1) was born Abt. 180721, and died 1879. He married Mary A. Sheets January 21, 1830 in Wood Co., WV >>>>>>>>>> Recorded Wood County Courthouse Marriage Book 1, pg 35. >>>>>>>>>>> Notes for Bennett Barton: Not shown on Wood CO, WV census until 1840 when appears with one .. >>>>>>>> Bennet does appear in the 1830 Wood County census with his wife but he isn't in the online version and presently I can't find the numbers to go with this information but I believe that was sent with an earlier reply from another researcher. Children of Bennett Barton and Mary Sheets are: 37 i. Mary Ann9 Barton, born Abt. 183121. She married Smith Kendrew. 38 ii. John S. Barton, born Abt. 183321. He married Harriett.LOWERS + 39 iii. Bennett Barton, born Abt. 1834 in Wood Co., West Virginia. 40 iv. Susan M. Barton, born Abt. 183821. 41 v. William H.H. Barton, born Abt. 184021. 42 vi. Matilda Barton, born Abt. 184221. 43 vii. Jerusha Barton, born Abt. 184521. 44 viii. Abigail Barton, born Abt. 184821. 45 ix. Charles Barton, born Abt. 184921. 46 x. Oliver Barton, born Aft. 1850. 47 xi. Thomas Barton, born July 15, 185422. >>>>>> I have a genealogy done about 1900 by the Rhode Island Hosp. Trust Co. which lists the spouses and children of some of the above. I have Rhoda Carver's Branch (wife of William Barton) and their descendants. Although it appears to be accurate with DAR records etc., I have not documented or attempted the majority. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who could clear up who William & Rhoda's children were, or if all were and which son wasn't mentioned in Rhoda's will or the codicil. I would also love to hear from anyone descended from William and Rhoda. Have a great day!!!! Kim
