Early in my research (while I still had very little clue) I was told that there were a lot of Bartons in the Posey Co., IN area. At the time that information was of very little use to me because I had not been able to move beyond my first Barton -- Florence -- who married Boyd Wells. She lived in Missouri and he in Arkansas but I found that their towns were close to the borders of their states. I did know (from census) that she was born in MO but her parents were born in Indiana. Florence and Boyd married in Ripley Co., MO (1897) and were living in Clay Co., AR in 1900. Eventually, I connected with a lady named Kim who told me that Florence's parents were Job Downey BARTON and Sarah (or Mary?) Elizabeth HANCOCK (who we believe went by Elizabeth). I have also gotten more census information on this family from other people and I have been able to construct some siblings. Now there is information from Kim that Job's parents were William B. (Bradford) BARTON and Nancy Green-Duckworth. (She was the widow of a Mr. Duckworth.) Of course I would like to find information on these family groups but I would also like to know if anyone knows anything about the Bartons from Posey Co., IN. Any general information is very welcome. On the early census, the girls were listed with the first name middle initial. Sister Harriet A. was later called Azilee, sister Elizabeth was Mary Elizabeth. There is another sister (Evelyn) but she was not born when the earlier census that gave me the sibling names was taken. (Their brothers were: John B., Arthur, Otis, and Charles W.)
