Ken, Thanks for the e-mail. I am going to attach a earlier e-mail that will explain my interest in Isaac Barton. I am hoping that my wealth of info on Webbs in East Tennessee may help you too. You may also hear from one Jay Webb, he is an excellent genealogist and he has great knowledge about East Tennessee History. Jim Webb, Jacksonville, Florida ****************************************************************************** **************** Dear Barton Researchers, I was both amazed and very pleased with the responses that I received from each of you. I think that it would be appropriate to tell you what my mission is in identifying Rev. Isaac Barton. My g/g/g/gf was one John Webb. He was in the Revolutionary War and married Elizabeth McMurtry on 01 Feb 1781 in then Washington Co., NC (now Tennessee). After John's death, Elizabeth applied for his Rev. War Pension. In those application records, is was necessary to show proof of their marriage. I suspect that John and Elizabeth were either Quakers, or under the influence of having been around Quakers and did not record their vows as required by Civil law. Elizabeth's parents were definitely Quakers as their marriage is recorded in the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. After years of trying, John Webb's Pension was never granted because there was no proof of his marriage recorded. I would love to find some record of their marriage, but I know that's not likely. John had a brother named Jesse Webb who wound up a Methodist Minister. For the time being, I am going to digest some of this material and I will be back in touch. If any of this information that I have sent today relates to something that know about, please respond. There are only two genealogists that I know of who are researching this John Webb line, Jay Webb in Clinton, Tennessee and myself. I am going to forward your e-mail to Jay as he is a very responsible person and knows a wealth of information about the families who lived in East Tennessee. Jay also has access to local information that is not available to me here in Jacksonville, Florida, my home. I feel sure that you will receive some e-mail from Jay and hopefully all of us can learn something new of value about our ancestors. I am going to send Mary Dulin's statement to you for your information.
