Sandy, I've been researching my Bartons for at least 10 years and still have not been able to break through to Elder B. Barton's parents or siblings. I suspect that he had a brother Samuel, who was b. ca. 1810 in KY. Samuel and his family are living in Brazos Co., TX in 1850. Elder B. and Samuel Barton both rec'd 1st class land grants in Brazoria Co. I thumbed through my 1850 Bartons and there were only two head of households that were born in KY. Samuel (wife,Evavline, was b. TN ca. 1816) and Kimber Barton b. ca. 1793 (Kimber's wife, Margaret, was b.IL ca. 1800). By 1850, the places that the head of the household stated they were born in are: SC, KY, TN, Germany (1), Ireland (1), AL, England (2), TX, NC, IN (1), and NY (1). Looking at family birth places in the 1850 TX census: there are SEVERAL that came from SC to GA to TX; TN to MO to TX; AL to TN to TX; TN to TX; TN to AL to TX; TN to MS to AL to TX; and SC to AL to TX. I have a hunch there was a connection with the CLEVELAND family, since according to a sworn affadavit Elder B. Barton was living with J. A. H. CLEVELAND in 1835. According to the book "Austin Colony Pioneers", under Washington County, there is a short bio. on the Horatio N. Cleveland family. It states that he was b. in AL in 1800 and came to Austin's Colony in Oct. 1835 with his wife and four sons. It also mentions a John Cleveland, W. H. Cleveland and J. A. H. Cleveland that all lived in Washington Co. at some point. If you think I may have some info that will help you, just ask, I'll be happy to share. At this point, I just don't know if we connect or not.
