Am researching the following family and hope someone can be of help. If I haven't noted a place (such as birth), it is because I haven't found documentation, but these families seemed to move between MD and PA primarily, with the Dungan's coming from RI. Thomas Barton b abt 1711 d 1784 Bucks Co., PA father: Joseph Barton mother: Elizabeth Kimber (see below for more info on her family) m Mary Dungan 11/6/1737 (First Presbyterian Church, Philadelpha, PA) Thomas died without a will, but the inventory of his estate lists the following children: Joseph, John, Kimber, Eli, Sarah, Pathany, Deborah, Levi, James, and Elizabeth. Mary Dungan Barton died 9/1799 and her will lists the following children: Joseph (b abt 1740), John (b 1742), Sarah Doyle (b abt 1745), Kimber (b 1746), Levi (b abt 1748), Pathany Stewart (b abt 1755), Eli (b abt 1760), Deborah Stewart (decd) (b abt 1768), Elizabeth James (b abt 1750), and one son, name illegible. The one illegible name could be the son James (b abt 1750) who was listed as an heir in Thomas Barton's estate papers. Mary Dungan was the daughter of Thomas Dungan* (b 1671; d 6/23/1759; m circa 1697) and Mary Drake (b 1/2/1679/80). She was the grandaughter of Thomas Dungan (b 2/3/1635 Westminster, London, England; d 1687 Bucks Co., PA) & Elizabeth Weaver. *Thomas Dungan's will (proved 7/4/1759) mentions his daughter Mary Barton. As an aside, Mary Drake supposedly descends from the Sir Francis Drake family, however, I haven't personally verified this. Elizabeth Kimber was the d/o Thomas Kimber & Elizabeth Chalkey. Their children were: Mary Kimber b 2/1703 MD; d 12/1790 Bucks Co., PA; m Walter Shewell Elizabeth Kimber m Joseph Barton Thomas Kimber Jr. b abt 1687; d 1735 MD, unmarried** John Kimber b abt 1694 James Kimber b abt 1697 **The will of Thomas Kimber (written 12/10/1734, proved 2/12/1734/5) lists as heirs his nephews Joseph and Thomas Barton, among others. Joseph & Thomas were the sons of Thomas Kimber's sister, Elizabeth Kimber and Joseph Barton. My primary interest at this time is James Barton, s/o Thomas Barton & Mary Dungan who I believe may be the James Barton who appears in Fauquier Co., VA. There is a deed in Fauquier Co., VA that was witnessed by both James Barton & Kimber Barton and involves Bucks Co., PA. Would love to compare information with anyone researching these families, particularly if you have information that supports the James Barton from Bucks Co., PA being the same James Barton found in Fauquier Co., VA.
