    1. Re: [BARTON-L] BARTONs of Hadlow, Kent, England
    2. Michael Sprackling
    3. Hi Clive, I really wasn't expecting any positive feedback on this one but this is very encouraging. It's not every day that one makes contact with a common 10g. grandson or daughter! In fact if this pedigree is kosher then John BARTON is also the 10g. grandfather of my wife, who too was born in Kent. The trouble is that I inherited most of it from a third party who in turn had done the same. So it looks as if it has been doing the rounds. Typically it doesn't contain any references so each of the links has to be checked from original records which I haven't done. I would imagine that a large part has been extracted from the Hadlow Parish Registers. The British VRI contains 329 baptisms and 52 marriages for BARTON in Hadlow from 1558 from both PRs and BTs but the coverage is incomplete. I have not looked at much of this yet but the odd dip confirms the data I have with some minor discrepancies. It enabled me to pick up the illegitimate birth of Solomon Barton DUDDY to Macy DUDDY. No father's name given but guess who! His birth would have been subsequently legitimised by his parents' shotgun marriage so would he have changed his name to Solomon Barton BARTON?? Yes, Solomon was the 7th of 13 children of Solomon BARTON and Elizabeth BEAUMONT. He was baptised 23 Oct 1774, Hadlow, and married Mac(e)y or Mary DUD(D)Y [depending on source] 17 Jun 1798, Hadlow. Apparently the family moved from Hadlow to Brabourne some time between 1809 and 1815 so this would account for Elizabeth being missing from the Hadlow pedigree. The interval between Stephen and Elizabeth also suggests that there may have been one or two more children as yet unaccounted for. I will send you and any other applicants the full report off list. Let me know if you can import a GEDCOM file. I should be interested to know from whom you descend!
