Surnames: Barton, Hawkins Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xZC.2ACIB/2356 Message Board Post: I have recently obtained the death certificate for my 2nd great-grandfather's sister. He was Daniel Barton b. 1838 in Baltimore and d. 1905 in Winston-Salem, NC. Laura Susannah is his youngest sister, listed in the 1850 census as Susannah, but subsequent censuses as Laura S. Up until now, we had only one document stating the names of Daniel's parents, the memorial written upon his death by his Moravian pastor. This gave their names as Stephen and Betsy Barton. Because of this, I have spent countless hours trying to track down a Stephen Barton but have always come up empty! I also never knew Betsy/Elizabeth's surname. Laura's death record gives her father's name not as Stephen but James! Mother is listed as Elizabeth Hawkins. Elizabeth was born about 1807 and died Aug. 19, 1876 and is buried at Western Cemetery in Baltimore. The 1850 census says she was born in PA but all other censuses as well as her death record say she lived in Baltimore "all of her days". That census also! states that her oldest children were also born in PA, so I believe that James/Stephen probably was as well. So, armed with this new information, I hope ya'll can help me! We are in Lineage XII, A-50. Also of note, Daniel was the only one in his family to go South. To my knowlege the rest of his family remained in the Baltimore area. Any help would so be appreciated!
