William P. C. Barton was born in Penn. And lived most of his life there. On April 10, 1800 he enlisted in the navy as a Surgeon, his pay was $50. Dollars a month and 2. Rations a day. In April 28, 1809 he was Commissioned, from 1809 to 1813 there is no duty rosters. In 1814 he was station at Philadelphia, from 1815 to 1817 there is no duty rosters. Then in 1818 he was station back to the naval yard at Philadelphia. In the years of 1819 to 1830 he was station at the Hospital in Philadelphia. Then in 1831 he was station at the Naval Hospital at Norfolk Va. In 1832 to 1836 he was back at Philadelphia. The year of 1836 is the last time we see him on the Rosters. Then in 1842 he was nominated and was Chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. The reports of Congress say the he died some time in 1856. Congress also went on to say that in Dec. 16, 1858 his wife Hester Sergeant Barton was asking for a pension.
