She was the daughter of James Edward Barton and Jane Shields married May 20, 1837 Clark Co. Illinois. James Edward was born 1824 Pendleton County KY. although I believe this date to be wrong because he would have been only 13 when he married. He was the son of John Barton and Mary Polly Earles married May 9 1816 Pendleton County Ky. John was born in Virginia. I don't know if he came to KY as a child with his family or if he went there after he was grown. John's brothers were William, David, Stephen, Taylor and Rosewell. I don't know what happened to these brothers but it could be that one or more of them went to Pendleton Co. KY also and stayed there while John and Mary went on to Illinois.
