All I have heard about the relationship between Roger and Rufus is circumstantial but there is also this. Even though Rufus signed the lease he was not in NY to use it. At the time mentioned Rufus was in RI. The proof is that Rufus is listed on the charter for the founding of Warwick RI and was present to sign the actual charter. There is also supposedly a letter that Rufus wrote to the Governor of the Dutch colony indicating a long running disagreement. I must admit that I have never seen a copy of this letter and do not know all the contents. What I have had third hand is that Rufus had an argument with the governor and had to leave and wrote the letter to turn the lease over to Roger. Again, this is circumstantial at best but if anyone knows where a copy of this letter could be obtained I would be grateful. L Barton
