    3. It was not mandatory in VT to record births, deaths, marriages until 1857. Anything recorded before that was at the discretion of the family, town clerk, justice of the peace or minister. The Vermont Vital Records Index (VVRI), a master card index of vital events that were recorded in original town records in Vermont between 1760 and 1982 is located at: Mailing Address: Vital Public Records Division General Services Administration Research Center, Drawer 33 Montpelier, VT 05633-7601 Location Address: General Services Administration Building Research Center Rt 2, Middlesex, VT Open Mon-Fri 8-4 except state holidays The staff at the Public Records Division Research Center, wil search the microfilmed card index for a fee of $5.00 per event, which includes a copy of the record card. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Try this. Larry Sheila328@aol.com wrote: > > Thank you all (again) for the detailed information on Bartons in > Massachusetts.
