Thank you all (again) for the detailed information on Bartons in Massachusetts. In looking at a map, it strikes me that many appear along a narrow band bwtween Worcester and Northampton--even if the families are not obviously related. ("My" Bartons end up in North Brookfield and Ware, even though I can't prove a link with any of the other lines--yet.) I'm writing now with an added question. I've outlined for the group my line going back to Silas Kellogg Barton and his possible father Daniel. I have just received a photocopy of Silas Abbott Barton's death certificate, from Waltham. It identifies his father's place of birth as Pittsford, VT (previously I had an "official" state record, which was transcribed, so I was willing to consider that there was confusion in the transcription--but the original is clear); the same town appears on Silas K's death certificate, and Silas A's birth certificate. I wrote to the State of Vermont to search for Silas K. Barton's birth record, but they did not find anything (I have not written directly to Pittsford). Does anyone have a Barton line that passes through Pittsford, Vermont? For those who can't find it (I couldn't), it is north of Rutland. All suggestions welcome. Sheila Connolly
