RALPH BARTON DEAD;SUICIDE,SAY POLICE: Famous cartoonist is found shot to death New York May 20(UP) Ralph Barton, famous artist and caricaturist known nationally for his popular magazine illustrations, was found shot to death today in his luxurious penthouse apartment in East 57th St. Police said he was a suicide. A close friend of Barton told the United Press that the artist had been in love with an heiress who was reported to have left him for another man a day or two ago. Barton, who was 39 years old, returned to this country a few weeks ago after the French courts had granted his fourth wife, Germaine Marie Tailleferre, a divorce on grounds of desertion. His body was discoved by a maid when she entered the artist's bedroom. Barton was in bed with a bullet hole in his temple. The maid summoned police who said that Barton had been dead for some hours.
