Surnames: Chase, Barton, Smith Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Eg.2ADE/1107 Message Board Post: Salt Lake Tribune, 01/21/04 Louise Barton Chase 7/07/12 ~ 1/18/04 Louise Barton Chase, age 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep, of natural causes, on Sunday morning, January 18, 2004, in Sandy, Utah, in the home of her son, Randal. She was greeted in passing by her beloved husband, Irel, who preceded her in death on February 10, 1989. Louise was born July 7, 1912, in Preston, Idaho, to Walter K. Barton and Jennett Maria Smith. She showed her intellectual gifts by graduating two years early, at age 16, from Franklin Academy and winning a church-wide speech competition as a teenager. She met her eventual husband, Irel Chase, at Franklin Academy. They married in the Salt Lake Temple August 20, 1930. During the Depression, they lived humbly on a small farm south of Levan, Utah. They later moved to Nephi, where they became community leaders and were instrumental in bringing Thermoid Rubber Co. to Nephi in the 1950s. She served faithfully in many capacities in the Church throughout her life, including a! mission to the Peter Whitmer Visitors Center with her husband in 1973-1974. Louise's posterity is extensive. Five children-Lynn (Kathryn) Chase, Barton (Rosemary) Chase, Mary Lou (Wayne) Olsen, Laura (Paul) Norris, and Randal (Deborah) Chase, plus 28 grandchildren, 76 great-grand-children, and 12 great-great-grand-children. Louise is also survived by four sisters: Donna (Mockli), Vauna (Hegerhorst), Jeanette (Drury), and Helen (Bodily). She was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Glen and Cliff Barton, and two sisters, Flora and Ruth. Louise was a gracious and refined woman, for whom excellence was the only acceptable standard. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004, in the Sandy Granite 6th Ward chapel, 9245 S. Quail Run Drive (2320 E), Sandy, Utah, at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.), Friday, 6-8 p.m. or Saturday at the church 9:00-! 9:45 a.m. Interment, Nephi Utah City Cemetery. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 1/21/2004.
