Barton, 77, of 59 Frew Run Road, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 31, 2005 in his home. He was born March 23, 1928, in Conewango, the son of Albert and Beatrice Sutton Barton. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the Essex and the Yorktown. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Barton Electric Inc. in Warren. In earlier years, he had been a tool and die maker and was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181, the Carroll Rod and Bun, and a founding member of the Cold Spring Hunting Preserve. He received his pilot licence at the age of 15 and enjoyed building and piloting his own planes. He also enjoyed building and racing go carts and later built and raced sportsmans cars at Stateline and Erie Speedways. In 1975, he raced in the modified division at Daytona International Speedway. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and teaching others. He is survived by his wife, Joan Reynolds Barton, whom he married in 1953 in South Dayton; three daughters: Deborah Kelley of Bemus Point, Martha Betts of Warren, and Alice Herron of Clayton, S. C.; two sons: Charles Barton of Angelica, and John Barton of Jamestown; nine grandchildren: Matthew and John Herron of North Carolina, Scott and Rick Barton of Jamestown, Ross, Michael and Ryan Betts of Warren, Alicia Rose Kelley of Napa, Calif., and Justin Kelley of Mamouth Mountain, Calif.; a brother, Bertrum Barton of Virginia; and a sister, Alice Lindquist of Kennedy. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Clarence and Harold Barton; and a sister, Betty Nutt. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. Rev. Edward Davis, pastor of the Wheeler Hill Church, Frewsburg, will officiate.
