Surnames: Barton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xZC.2ACIB/2375.1 Message Board Post: I've been researching the Rapides Parish Bartons for several years now. I don't know how my Bartons are connected to Buck Barton, although I think they are related. However, I did find this info that you may find useful about him. William Robert "Buck" Barton married Annie Cordelia Kemp b. 1880 in 1900. Her sister, Ophelia, b. 1880, is shown as also marrying a William Barton at the same time. (I think this was an error.) Another sister, Rosa, b. 1877 married a Talbot Dodd in 1902. An older brother, Wyatt E., b. 1872 married a Martha L. Braddy (?). The Kemp parents, were Elijah, b.1840 and Lucy, b. 1849. Elijah Kemp had CSA by his name too. Some of this info came from the 1880 census and other things from the marriage records. The relative I have been researching is Gage G. Barton, b. 1858. He married Frances E. Townley and one of their daughters, Beulah Irene Barton, was my grandmother. I'd love to be able to put all these Bartons together. Hope you find this info useful. Sue Baker

He had three sons named Samuel, Noah, and James who were born in Pennsylvania. I think he had a daughter also. Her name may have been something like Margarette. It is rumored that he arrived in the USA around 1820. His father's name may have been George. He died in Iowa after 1895. I am wanting to find out information just on William for now. I need to find out when, how, and with who he arrived in the USA. I am trying to get a firm connection back to my Irish ancestors.

    1. [BARTON] HEADS UP! (from the List Admin)
    2. Christi Brogan
    3. For those who don't already know, RootsWeb is in the process of switching over to new upgraded list management software. For list subscribers, the changeover should be smooth. The changes primarily involve the administration tools that keep the list running behind the scenes. The biggest change is in the list name. The list name is changing from BARTON-L to just BARTON. So you may subscribe or unsub by sending your request to: BARTON-request@rootsweb.com with one exception. If you wish to SUBSCRIBE in DIGEST mode you must send your subscribe request to BARTON-D-request@rootsweb.com . The word "SUBSCRIBE" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" (without the quotes) MUST be included in the subject and may also be included in the message body. Digest subscribers will notice some changes to the list digests. New instructions will be added to the digests -- please read them. In addition, the digest volume and issue number may be different (out of sequence) from what you had been receiving. If your digests arrive in a different format than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me privately at the list admin address: barton-admin@rootsweb.com. Also, if you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the changeover, let me know. If you use email headers to filter list mail to a special folder in your email program you may need to check whether your filters will need tweaking under the test system. If you previously subscribed to the list in both L and D modes using the same email address you will find that you are no longer subbed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subbed in both L and D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to resubscribe to the digests using a different email address. Also, for those who have been requesting it, the Barton Mailing List web pages are undergoing their overhaul this weekend and will be returning to the web on Monday. You can reach those pages at http://broganfamily.org/gene/barton Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or problems during the list changes or if you would like to make sure your Barton website is linked on the Barton Mailing List website. You can reach me at barton-admin@rootsweb.com as always. Please continue to send your queries, data, and responses to the list as usual with the exception of using Barton@rootsweb.com as the address to send mail to. It is a great time to post a new query to try to break down those walls. Thanks! Christi Brogan listadmin for Barton@rootsweb.com

    3. Does your John relate to the John Barton, second son of Valentine Barton? This John was born in Price William Co, VA in 1803. The family moved out to KY ca 1811. Also bought land right across the river from Boone Co, Ky in Indiana's Gore. The first born son was James. Also had a William. This Barton clan probably dates back to 1700 in VA, and a little earlier in MD. The Valentine name recurs. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xZC.2ACIB/2377 Message Board Post: Hi, Barton Relatives, I just applied for membership in DAR. I had read in the BARTON BOOK, page 79, that my ancestor David Barton, son of Thomas Barton SR. and Sarah Wilson had served as a 2nd Lt. in the American Revolution (1775-1783) in 1780. The DAR wrote back today and said that they have him listed but, they have no positive documentation of his service. Does anyone have this documentation that they need? I would appreciate any information anyone can send me or let me know what other people have done to get the necessary documentation. My Barton lineage is as follows: Wally Caviness, b. 1940 Ernest Caviness, b. 1903 Emma Magdalene Barton Caviness, b. 1876 Francis Marion Barton, b. 1845 John Milton Barton, b. 1799 Thomas Barton, b. 1777 David Barton, b. 1752 Thanks, Wally
