Her John Barton b. 1809 in Tn and died in Indiana. He had a daughter named Malinda. Go to the Barton message board and read our emails. My Barton's did not arrive in Crawford, MO. from NC until 1869. My great grandfather Francis Marion Barton's older brother William came in 1869 and another brother Benjamin arrived a year later. Francis arrived there in 1881. My wife and I just came back from a BARTON FAMILY RETREAT north of Greenville/Spartanburg, SC area. (13-15 Oct.) Met a lot of new cousins and had a fantastic time. Let's keep in touch. Laurentine Kelly William, Benjamin and Malinda are buried in the Cross Roads Cemetery. The cemetery is adjacent to the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Benjamin left $1,000.00 to the church. The money was used to rebuild the church building and the resulting structure is the main building of today. My wife Lee Ann and I visited the cemetery in Oct. of 2005, looking for the gravesite of my great grandmother Laurentine Kelly Barton. We could not locate the grave. There are six or more Barton tombstones in a row near the entrance to the cemetery. I would be able to pinpoint more info, if you would send me more info on each person, birthplace, birthdate, county, city and state. Also, when they died and where. Wally

If I remember right, I think one of our Barton ancestors helped in organizing the founding of the church. David Barton b. 1752-1838 and his wife Nancy Barrett Barton tombstones are in the Tyger Baptist Cemetery across the street from the church. Lunch was provided by the Tyger Baptist Church ladies. After lunch a cemetery walk was took place. The highlight of the whole Barton Retreat was the dedication of a beautiful memorial bronze marker placed on the original homestread site of Thomas Barton b.1723. This 150 acre homestead was north of the Pacolet River, between two forks that drained into that river. These forks were later named Barton Creek and Barton Branch. After the dedication, it was a very, very hard time to say, Good Bye, to all the cousins and relatives that we had met for the first time during the three day retreat. We then headed to the Greenville/Spartanburg airport to make sure that we knew how to get there at 4:00 AM. >From the airport, we headed to our cousin Harold Turner's home in Picken, SC. to see all of his beautiful handmade muscial instruments. Well, going against my wife Lee Ann's directions, I took the scenic route, instead of the most direct route and did not arrive until after dark. Harold is really a fine skilled craftsman. He also plays and sings pure "Dark Corner" music. In fact, the next week-end, he was a featured demonstrator at the old Haywood Grist Mill, where the Pickens County Parks has demonstrations of old-time happenings on certain week-ends of the month. Well, we arrived back here in Bellingham, Washington safe, sound and still on a high. (I know now what LSD did to those Californie's back in the 60's and 70's) As I close, my wife and I would just like to thank everyone for great time that we were able to share with yo'all. To Terry, Bette, Shirley, Harold and all the great speakers and entertainers, THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I am not a poet by any means, but, I would like to summerize our feelings of the 2006 Barton Retreat. The Barton family tree reminds me of our great fir and pine trees that grow here in the Pacific Northwest. Every year, in the Fall leaves and needles drop to the ground. In the Spring, new leaves and needles sprout, the limbs and branches keep growing and getting bigger, adding to the size of the tree. Some leaves and needles you can recognize, others are just what you see in pictures or words on a piece of paper. When you attend a family reunion, rather it be the Barton Family or any other reunions of your various family lineages, you are able to connect the names and faces on real people. Plan now to attend your next years Reunions!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, with all our Love and Appreciation Wally and Lee Ann Caviness

I am James Barton's great-great-great-grandaughter, from Jacob Barton line. Since I am a beginner to this I fear I have nothing to offer in the line of info other than what was already posted on the web. I do have a family tree from a deceased great aunt that has helped me identify my ancestors. I have posted our family tree on ancestry.com. If I can answer any questions please contact me.
Hello Researchers, Does anyone connect with Thomas Barton, b. New York in Sept 1836 and his wife Nancy ( Craig)? They are found in 1880 Census of Wasco Co Oregon and Nancy's parents, Hugh and Anna ( Greene) Craig are listed next to them. By the Census of 1900, Thomas and Nancy Barton are residing in Ellensburg, Klickitat Co., Washington. Thomas Barton's daughter, Eily, m. William Roe. I am hoping that some Barton descendants will have further information about Hugh Craig. Any little clue will help! THANKS, Marlene in California

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xZC.2ACIB/2402 Message Board Post: Saturday Oct. 13, The Barton Reunion began with a bus tour led by Dean Campbell. (He was contributor of a new book just out this week by James A Howard called "DARK CORNER HERITAGE"). In fact, in the back of the book is a photo of Dean in his younger days. What a gifted man he is. Well, due to the bus tour being sold out before I registered, my wife Lee Ann and I took a little trip to the Echo Trading Post a few miles north of Travelers Rest. The owner has many decals to put on T-shirts. We picked out some cute decals and had him put them on T-shirts for our grandchildren. Anne McCuen, spoke to the group in the afternoon about "THE WAY IT WAS "WITH FAITH AND COURAGE" a story about her family geneology. Anne is the author of "Including a Pile of Rocks". Great job!!!! Terry Barton, the re-elected president of the THE BARTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY, then spoke on the important topic of "THE BARTONS AND DNA". Terry had the group in awe the whole time, as he explained the importance of all Bartons, men or women to get their blood tested. After Terry spoke, the Barton Historical Society had their Business meeting. The evening meal was a Southern Pork BBQ Dinner on the shore of the Look-Up Lodge lake, by Charles Hudson and his fine crew. Great food, great tastes!!!! When dinner was about over, I went to heaven!!!!!!!!! The BLUERIDGE ROUNDERS, a four piece band played the music that has been in my BARTON blood for many years. I was toe tapping the whole time the band played. In fact, a very cute Barton relative saw me doing my interpertation of the "Tarheel Stomp" and we then danced. I was then elevated to the next higher cloud in heaven. FANTASTIC!! If you like their type of music, you can go on line and order a CD. After the night air got chilly, we went to the dining hall and heard another great story by Charlotte Ross. When Charlotte was finished speaking, I was picked to draw a name of all those who had paid all fees in advance. Well, before I annnounced the winner, I showed the group how to fold the stub of the ticket a certain way, so that when the next time they enter a drawing, they will have better odds. (When I got home to Bellingham, I had a message that I had won a Prime Rib dinner for two). Once again, I would like to remind you that YOU, YES YOU, are a very important link in our Barton Lineage, please take a part by joining the THE BARTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY and the BARTON DNA PROJECT. You can contact the Barton Historical Society on how to obtain copies of the books or CD"s that I mentioned above. They are a MUST HAVE, if you have any ties to the "DARK CORNER" and the Grassy Mt. area. Cuzin Wally,
