The links are no longer clickable, but copying and pasting works to get to your main page and then the directions given work just fine. I was just confused in that I thought they had been directly linked previously. My apologies...

    3. And to try to bring this back on-topic, I'd also point out that X is used as an abbreviation (Xtian for Christian is an example that comes to mind) *all over* the 17th and 18th century church records I've studied. 3. Dear Offended (and xmaself): In fact X is the greek letter chi (pronounced kai). In Greek, it is the first letter of Christ. In some congregations, there is a Christ symbol with the greek letters chi superimposed above the letter Rho, which looks a bit like a small p. Chi + Ro + Christ. It's a bit like using a fish as a symbol for Jesus, not at all suggesting that he is smelly. Xmas means Christ-mas. ron stockton ============================ Jgweret@aol.com wrote: > This is to _xmaself@comcast.net_ (mailto:xmaself@comcast.net) . > > The term XMAS was started and used instead of Christmas by non -Christians. > If you are a believer, you might change your e-mail address to something > other than Xmas Elf. > > Thanks. > > Offended John > All messages posted to this mailing list are the property of their writers. 1. Re: [BARTON] william barton - FROM THE LIST ADMIN...
    2. Christi Brogan
    3. John, I will post three points regarding this message and then request that there be no further discussion of this topic on this list. The first and most important point is that your email response is off topic for this list as it does not relate to genealogy nor to the original message content in any way. As an off-topic post, any responses to it will also be considered off topic and are reason for removal from the list. Second, the original message was posted on an ancestry.com message board as per the start of the message which stated "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." That means that any reply made by email will not reach the initial poster. Instead, you would have had to click on the message board URL in the message and post your reply there (which you should not do since it is also off topic for the message board and would be removed). Third point, in regards to your message in particular, is that you are mistaken in your comment. A search on the internet of any reliable Christian or secular sources, would show that. For your information I will give a few sources here for you to start your own research: http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=Xmas http://www.cresourcei.org/symbols/xmasorigin.html http://www.bartelby.com/61/80/X0008000.html http://snopes.com/holidays/christmas/xmasabbr.asp While I appreciate your beliefs and respect your right to them, they are out of place on this list. Please refrain from further list posting on this and like topics and let's all get back to posting about genealogy. Thank you! -Christi (List Admin for the Barton mailing list) Jgweret@aol.com wrote: > This is to _xmaself@comcast.net_ (mailto:xmaself@comcast.net) . > > The term XMAS was started and used instead of Christmas by non -Christians. > If you are a believer, you might change your e-mail address to something > other than Xmas Elf. > > Thanks. > > Offended John

    2. This is to _xmaself@comcast.net_ (mailto:xmaself@comcast.net) . The term XMAS was started and used instead of Christmas by non -Christians. If you are a believer, you might change your e-mail address to something other than Xmas Elf. Thanks. Offended John

    3. Paul, thanks. We have learned a good bit about the common - and non-common - ancestries of our Barton families. Our 177 members have allowed us to identify the yDNA and heritage of many Barton families. However, there are still many families that are not yet involved. The Barton DNA Project continues to offer sponsorships to those families who have not tested. Let me know if your family is interested in getting involved. (we also welcome any male Barton to participate - whether your family has tested or not) Best regards, Terry Barton www.bartonsite.org -----Original Message----- From: barton-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:barton-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Paul Barton Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 10:29 AM To: BARTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BARTON] DNA Study It is exciting to see the growth in postings from the UK, Australia and New Zealand. I know that a branch of the Edward Barton family from New England migrated to Australia in the 1850's.
