The host Bette Pitman just sent me a roster of the attendees. I noticed that there are several other descendents of John Milton and Sophie Barton on the roster. I would be interested in any photo's that you as descendents of John and Sophie might be able to send me. Before the Barton Retreat, I stopped at Brevard, NC and took pictures of Sophie (Cathey's Creek Cem.)and John's gravestone's (Davison River Cem.). I have photo's of Sophie's father Jacob Kyle tombstone. I forgot the name of the cemetary where Jacob and his three unmarried daughters are buried. You could contact my cousin Shirly Mason as to the name of the cemetary as there is no sign along the road to tell you the name of the cemetary. I think it is along Hwy. 11. I have pictures of David and Nancy Barrett Barton tombstone taken at the Tyler Baptist Church Cem. I would like to share with you these photo's. Cuzin Wally

Hello all, This is just a quick reminder that any message which comes to the list that starts: "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." MUST be responded to on the message board directly rather than on the list in order for the message originator to receive your response. While all messages that are posted on the board are received by the list, the same is not true in reverse. ONLY messages posted on the board are seen by the board visitors, so please click on the link in the email (listed as "Message Board Url:") in order to respond to those types of messages. Otherwise the list members will see your response, but the person asking the question or posting the information will not. I want to apologize to everyone for how quiet the lists have been and how absent I have seemed. I AM here, it's just taking all the time I have free to keep up with the changes happening on Rootsweb/Ancestry these days, so please don't give up on me yet! :) It's a new year and time to start trying to hit on those wonderful brick walls again, to dislodge a brick or two. Feel free to post your queries, records, etc. concerning this surname to the list and/or the boards and let's see what we can accomplish! Your listadmin, Christi

Hello all I just went into the link from Sharon and found my own name and my ancestors on it with reference to B37. John m Ann; son: Stephen, b 23 1817, Folkstone, Kent, UK m Jane Wood Formage - B-37 - Joy Barton Russell (Briton) We have not been tied in to any of the DNA findings as far as I know. My brother was tested and we are in the group of unknowns. Is anyone else researching this family. Would love to hear from you Joy ************************************

Have you considered DNA testing? The Barton project is quite large with many different Barton families showing up. At one time it was thought that my James Barton was probably from the Thomas and Mary Kimber Barton family. DNA has shown that my James is not...they are not the same family at all. This was made possible due to the large sampling of Bartons as well as work by some of the Bartons to get Barton folks to take the DNA testing even if they are not interested in genealogy. M. Montgomery Barton. Rhode was a son of George Washington and Catherine Reese Barton. George was a son of John and Mary Earls Barton. John was a son of allegedly James. At one time is was thought that John was a grandson of Thomas & Mary Kimber Barton, but DNA has proven this not to be a fact. The DNA profile of descendant of the father of John matches that of the Stafford County, Virginia Bartons and is that of Lineage I. I can give you history back to John & Mary Earls Barton as well as history on the siblings of John, all of whom at this time are using the unknown James as an alleged father, since county records would indicate that this would be fact. I have very little on the descendants of Grover Cleveland and would love to have you share your family with me. Kimber And Elizabeth Lewis Barton had a son named John , born about 1773 in Virginia. He however, married Susan/Suzanne O'Brian, daughter of Enoch, in 1804, in Fauquier Co., VA. Mary Earls and John Barton were married in in Pendleton Co., KY in 1816. I have a copy of their marriage certificate and application in which consent was given for Mary. At the time that Loretta & her sister Bernice were doing earlier research it was commonly accepted that Thomas & Mary Kimber Barton were the grandparents of John, who married Mary/Polly Earls/Earles. It has been since proven, by Blood, that this is not the fact. Kimber was proven by many records to be a son of Thomas & Mary Kimber and a proven direct descendant male of Kimber was recently tested and the DNA does not even come close to matching proven direct descendants of John, nor any of his brother's lines that have been tested. John and his brothers' lines are all exact matches with each other. In a message dated 12/31/2006 10:14:51 A.M. I have a fair amount of stuff on the Bartons of Pendleton Co, KY. I too have Wm, John, James, Mary. I thought I would have no trouble because the first of my line as far back as I have gotten is Valentine, and that is a recurring name, but no such luck so far after 20 years of digging. George Washington Barton MarriedCatherine Reese Gen 6 George Washington Barton sired Jube Lee Barton (My G Grandfather) Jube was born March 1862 , Mo. Jube married Martha Emma Smith. Gen 7 Jube Lee Barton sired Maryline Barton (my Paternal Grandmother) born 2-20-1882. She married John William Oss Camden. She died 2-27-1948, in Reynolds County, Mo. Loretta Camden Payne These are my notes on Kimber Barton: *1785 - mentioned in court records on the settlement of the estate of his father, Thomas Barton. End quote.
