I descend through a James Barton, believed to be the son of David and Elizabeth McCormack Barton found in Bedford County, Va. David is the son of Thomas and Sarah (?) who came to Bedford from Faquier/Prince William County, Va. DNA shows a match between Bavester and David. There's a family story that my James spent some time in Ky., before coming back to Monroe Co., Va., but I haven't been able to make a connection. Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Helen

Thomas who came from VA. homesteaded near Tryon,SC in 1769 near the Pacolet River between two streams. He could not go further west of the Pacolet because no white man at that time could settle on Cherokee lands. On Oct. 15, 2006, the BARTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY, dedicated a bronze memorial marker at that homesite. My wife Lee Ann and I were very pleased to be able to attend the dedication I looked in the BARTON BOOK, published by the Barton Historical Society and did not find Bavister Barton. Did he go by any other name or names or where did he come from before he was in SC? If I can be of further help, please let me know. Wally

In my recently posted query re Thomas Barton who was in Ellensburg, Washington in 1900 Census: I see that he and his wife Nancy and their daughter, Mabel 17, were listed in the 1910 Census of St. Johns Precinct, Multnomah Co OR. Thomas is listed as 70 years old. Marlene
I am still hoping to find someone who has info on Thomas Barton,b Sept 1836 who was b. New York. He m. Nancy Craig and they had at least 2 children, Elly/Iley b June 1875 and William b in Iowa abt 1860. Thomas states in the Census of 1880, where he was living in Wasco Co Oregon that he was born New York, his father b New York and his mother B. Ireland. In the 1900 Census, Thomas is a "Stockman" living in Ellensburg, Washington. I am tracking Nancy Craig Barton's parents, Hugh Craig and Anna ( Green) Craig, who moved across country from Ohio and lived next to the Barton's in 1880 Wasco Co, Oregon. Any descendants out there? THANKS, Marlene
