My cousin Shirley Mason of Pickins, SC, has asked me to write an article for the Transylvania Heritage Book Vol. II on Francis and his descendents after they left Swain, NC. I have little information on the his descendents other than his daughter Emma Magdalene Barton Caviness, my grandmother. I do know that Don Neal of Portland, Ore. is a great grandson Mamie Barton Neal and Joan Anderson is a great grand daughter of Otis Milam. They live about 30 miles apart, but, did not know that, until last year, when I got them to meet. I would appreciate any information and photo's you might be able to send me. The deadline for the article is 15 March. Sincerely, Wally Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [BARTON] Moore Booth Barton of Marietta Township, Washington Co, OH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kmplenge Surnames: Moore Booth Barton of Marietta Township, Washington Co, OH Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.barton/2524/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dr Jason Harvey Moore married Francis "Fannie" Booth in Marietta Township 16 Apr 1884. Four children are known - Grace Mildred (1885 KS), Jason Harvey Jr (1886 PA), Frances Elizabeth (1896 GA), and Horatio Booth (1900). Fannie died 1941 and is buried in Mound Cemetery, Marietta Township. However, Dr Moore is shown in the census with a second wife by 1920, leading to the assumption that he and Fannie divorced. Grace Mildred died in 1970 in Riverside Co, CA and is buried in Mound under the last name Barton. First name of husband and any children are unknown. Nothing is known about Jason Harvey Jr except his birth. Frances Elizabeth and Horatio Booth are both buried in Mound, presumably with Fannie, in 1984 and 1963 respectively. Seeking anyone with any further knowledge of this family, any living descendants, date of divorce if this is what occurred, etc. Thanks! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.barton/2522.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, my name is Wally Caviness of Bellingham, Washington and I am a descendent of Thomas Barton, b.1723-1790. My wife Lee Ann and I attended the Barton Retreat hosted by the Barton Historical Society. It was held at the Look-Up Lodge north of Greeneville, SC on the 2nd week of Oct. 2006. The highlight of the Retreat was the dedication of a large bronze memorial marker on the original homestead of Thomas. He settled there after coming from VA. He could not go further west of the Pacolet River, because that was Cherokee Lands. No white man at that time (1769) was allowed to settle on Cherokee Lands. To get more information on the Barton families who settled in the states that you mentioned you need to get a copy of THE BARTON BOOK, which is offered by the THE BARTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Their address is: Barton Historical Society, P.O. BOX 495 Lyons, SC 29365 Terry Barton is the President of the Society. It lists all the branches of Bartons that are related to Thomas Barton and Sarah Wilson. It also mentions other brothers of Thomas. My Barton lineage is as follows: Wally Caviness Ernest Caviness John Franklin Caviness and Emma Magdalene Barton Francis Marion Barton and Laurentine Permelia Susan Kelly John Milton Barton and Sophia Kytle Thomas Barton and Nancy Ann Easley David Barton and Nancy Barrett Thomas Barton and Sarah Wilson I took pictures of the graves of John and Sophia in Brevard, NC and David and Nancy in Tryon, SC,while I was there. We had church services at the Tryon Baptist Church before we went to the dedication. David and Nancy are buried in the cemetary across the road from the church. I took pictures in Oct. 2005 of John Franklin and Emma graves in the Pleasant Grove Cem. near Sleeper,Mo. and Francis Marion and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Grant Porter in Decateur, AR. I hope this helps, please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Wally

    3. Hi Helen. Can you cite the source that tells of David Barton being from Fauquier/Prince Wm and son of Thomas Barton and Sarah? I don't doubt it, certainly the yDNA supports David and Bavestor both coming from the Stafford/Prince Wm/Fauquier Barton family - but I don't recall seeing that record or source. (If it is from "All Bartons are Kin" - did they site a source?) Best regards, Terry Barton World Families Network Where Genealogy meets DNA Testing http://www.worldfamilies.net/ Wayne, I would be interested in what you know about Bavester. I descend through a James Barton, believed to be the son of David and Elizabeth McCormack Barton found in Bedford County, Va. David is the son of Thomas and Sarah (?) who came to Bedford from Faquier/Prince William County, Va. DNA shows a match between Bavester and David. There's a family story that my James spent some time in Ky., before coming back to Monroe Co., Va., but I haven't been able to make a connection. Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Helen
