They do NOT have them all on yet, but they have posted literally hundreds of thousands. These run the gamut from every town, from the early 1600's to the present, with surnames from A through Z. On the internet, they just list the names, dates and where the person is buried. They do NOT list entire gravestone inscriptions. 1. Re: Fwd: [BARTON-L] Isaac Barton 1746-1831
    2. Can anyone on the list confirm, correct or make additions to the information below? Jay S. Webb Clinton, Tennessee ============================================================ The Rev. Isaac Barton ( Isaac was a Baptist Minister) was the son of Joshua Barton and Jane (Dubart) Barton. Rev. Isaac Barton was born 16 August 1746 Fredrick County, Maryland. He died 10 November 1831 in Jefferson County., Tennessee. He is buried in Springvale cemetery, Hamblen County., Tennessee. Rev. Isaac Barton was married on 10 September 1772 at the Pigg River area of Franklin County., Virginia to Keziah Murphy ((d/o William and Martha (Hodges) Murphy)) Keziah was born 7 August 1754 in Virginiaa and died 29 July 1845 . She died in Grainger County., Tennessee and was buried in Springvale Cemetery, Hamblen County, Tennessee. Rev. Isaac Barton was in Rowan County., North Carolina abt 1753; in Halifax County., Virginia. in 1760; in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1779 (which became Henry County Virginia, Virginia), then to Washington County, North Carolina abt 1780 (this area became Greene County, Tennessee). 1 February 1781, John Webb was married to Elizabeth McMurtry by the Rev. Isaac Barton in Washington County, North Carolina in a church about two miles from Elizabeth's home. ( this area became Warrensburg, Greene County, Tennessee). In 1785 the Bent Creek Baptist Church was organized with Tydence Lane as its pastor. Persons listed as prominent in it's organization and growth was "Isaac Barton", Jacob Coffman and others. Jacob Coffman was a Primitave Baptist Preacher and was on the board of Trustees of the church known as Robertsons Creek Meeting house in Hawkins County, Tennessee. On 25 March 1786, Rev. 1. [BARTON-L] BARTONs/GALLOWAYs from PA to OH
    2. von Hitritz, Steve
    3. To all BARTON and GALLOWAY researchers. I am posting this to both lists in the hopes we can continue trying to piece together our families in Greene and Clark Co.s OHIO. The BARTON researchers are at the point where we are trying to tie together, Mary BARTON, wife of "Clark" James GALLOWAY, Catherine BARTON, wife of George GALLOWAY, Thomas BARTON, husband of Mary GALLOWAY and finally John BARTON (in Greene Co.), spouse unk. We believe that these BARTONs are siblings. Steve von Hitritz in Richmond, VA Below is courtesy of Jack Walton: A DISCUSSION OF THE BARTON, GALLOWAY AND JUNKIN FAMILIES IN CLARK/GREENE COUNTIES, OHIO CIRCA 1790-1860. This "investigative report" has been distilled from numerous sources such as published genealogies, wills, newspaper articles, obituaries, D.A.R. records, census returns etc. It is important to keep in mind that no conclusions should be drawn from the material presented here. The 1850 Federal Census identifies Thomas J. Barton and locates him as living in the village of Enon, Ohio. The names of each member of his family is listed with their ages and place of birth. In 1850 there were also a number of other Bartons living in Clark county, Ohio, especially in Mad River township. On page #84, Mad River township are enumerated: Thomas Barton age: 82 place of birth: Fermanaugh, Ireland Mersa Barton age: 60 place of birth: Virginia Mary Galloway age: 80 place of birth: Fermanauth, Ireland Thomas Barton of Mad River township was the father of Thomas Junkin Barton that lived in Enon. According to her obituary published in the Springfield, Ohio paper in April 1878, Thomas Barton of Mad River township married Mascena Loyd on the 16th of October 1805. Mascena Loyd was born 22 October, 1790 in Frederick county, Virgina. There can be no doubt that "Mascena" and the "Mersa" reported on the 1850 census are one and the same person. It should be kept in mind that Thomas Barton was 36 years old and his wife a few days less than sixteen when they married. Although marriages with a 22 year difference in ages did and do occur, we should keep in mind that there is a possibility that this was Thomas Barton's second marriage. Mary Galloway, aged 80 and born in Fermanaugh, Ireland was undoubtedly Thomas Barton's sister and the widow of James Galloway, the blacksmith of Clark county who died 21st April, 1832. Thomas Barton and James Galloway the blacksmith were therefore brother-in-laws. James Galloway's will mentions the following people: George Galloway James Galloway Thomas Crawford and Margaret his wife Thomas Barton James Galloway Barton s/o John Barton, dec'd James Galloway Crawford s/o Thomas Crawford Thomas Johnson and Catharine Johnson, the children of Arthur Johnson, dec'd Anthony Galloway Thomas Barton Galloway s/o George Galloway Henry P. Galloway s/o James Galloway, Jr. Henry Barton s/o John Barton Jenkins Barton s/o Thomas Barton Witnesses: William Barton Daniel McGrovy Arthur Johnson ********************************************** The parents of George Galloway, "Esq." who was born 3-12-1771, were William Galloway and Rebecca Mitchell. The children of William and Rebecca Mitchell were: Mary, William, John, Ann, JAMES MITCHEL GALLOWAY, Joseph, Rebekah, Samuel JUNKIN Galloway. [note: George Galloway, "Esquire's" grandmother on his father's side was REBEKAH JUNKIN.] George Galloway, "Esq" Married CATHERINE BARTON on 2-8-1798. The children of George and Catherine Galloway were: Martha Galloway bn 10-17-1801 Mary Galloway bn 1-20-1803 William Galloway bn 8-18-1805 Catherine Galloway bn 7- 9-1811 THOMAS BARTON GALLOWAY bn 1-28-1808 Rebekah Thompson bn 2-25-1814 QUESTION: Who was CATHERINE BARTON that married George Galloway, Esq. and who was JOHN BARTON mentioned in James Galloway the blacksmith's will? How are they related to Thomas Barton, father of Thomas Junkin Barton? We seem to be missing a piece of the puzzle.....if we could find it, it would tell us a lot about our Barton family. I hope all this doesn't give everybody a migraine!! I probably have spent eight or ten hours sorting through Barton/Galloway/Junkin papers. You would not believe the number of intermarriages between these families, cousins marrying cousins etc. Add to this the sometimes careless documentation that seems to have taken place in developing the histories of the James Galloways of Greene and Clark counties makes for a challenging project. If the either of the two James Galloways were in my direct line I'd love to spend some time on it.

    1. Re: [BARTON-L] Isaac Barton 1746-1831
    2. Ken, Thanks for the e-mail. I am going to attach a earlier e-mail that will explain my interest in Isaac Barton. I am hoping that my wealth of info on Webbs in East Tennessee may help you too. You may also hear from one Jay Webb, he is an excellent genealogist and he has great knowledge about East Tennessee History. Jim Webb, Jacksonville, Florida ****************************************************************************** **************** Dear Barton Researchers, I was both amazed and very pleased with the responses that I received from each of you. I think that it would be appropriate to tell you what my mission is in identifying Rev. Isaac Barton. My g/g/g/gf was one John Webb. He was in the Revolutionary War and married Elizabeth McMurtry on 01 Feb 1781 in then Washington Co., NC (now Tennessee). After John's death, Elizabeth applied for his Rev. War Pension. In those application records, is was necessary to show proof of their marriage. I suspect that John and Elizabeth were either Quakers, or under the influence of having been around Quakers and did not record their vows as required by Civil law. Elizabeth's parents were definitely Quakers as their marriage is recorded in the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. After years of trying, John Webb's Pension was never granted because there was no proof of his marriage recorded. I would love to find some record of their marriage, but I know that's not likely. John had a brother named Jesse Webb who wound up a Methodist Minister. For the time being, I am going to digest some of this material and I will be back in touch. If any of this information that I have sent today relates to something that know about, please respond. There are only two genealogists that I know of who are researching this John Webb line, Jay Webb in Clinton, Tennessee and myself. I am going to forward your e-mail to Jay as he is a very responsible person and knows a wealth of information about the families who lived in East Tennessee. Jay also has access to local information that is not available to me here in Jacksonville, Florida, my home. I feel sure that you will receive some e-mail from Jay and hopefully all of us can learn something new of value about our ancestors. I am going to send Mary Dulin's statement to you for your information. Does the name Mary Dulin (could be Dullin as spelling was awful on everybody's part) mean anything to you? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- Mary Dulin's Sworn Statement concerning the marriage of John Webb and Elizabeth McMurtry - 2 March 1845 State of Tennessee) Sevier County) To Wit. knowing that on the 2 day of March 1845 personally appeared before me John Bird an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid Mary Dulin and after being(?) sworn in accordance to laws doth Certify and say that she was well acquainted with John Webb and Elizabeth McMurtry before they were married and I further Certify that I was at meeting on the day of their marriage I was her attendant on that day. 1. Re: [BARTON-L] Isaac Barton 1746-1831
    2. Jim, Here are some records that I have found. I hope some of his descendants come forward with some information. I found where in 1785 the Bent Creek Baptist Church was organized with Tydence Lane as its pastor. Persons listed as prominent in it's organization and growth was "Isaac Barton", Jacob Coffman and others. Jacob Coffman was a Primitave Baptist Preacher and was on the board of Trustees of the church known as Robertsons Creek Meeting house in Hawkins County. This would lead me to believe "Isaac Barton" was also a Baptist. I have serious doubts there was two people in this area with the name of Isaac Barton. In 1801 he built a house in Hamblen County, TN. In 1957 it was still standing and the oldest house in the county. Davy Crockett worked on the farm and spent many nights in the house. In 1821 he paid taxes in Grainger County, TN. He was a member of Captain Lane's Company and had 285 acres in Jefferson County, TN (1822 - 1830). It appears that a couple of his sons were mrthodist ministers. Nashville, TN paper dated Nov 28, 1831; Rev Isaac Barton age 85 died in Jefferson County, TN. He had a sister Sarah. 1. [BARTON-L] Rev. Isaac Barton
    2. Since posting a reply to an inquiry about the Rev. Isaac Barton, I have seen a couple of other postings. There seems to be some confusion about his ancestors. Evidently the confusion stems from an attempt a good number of years ago at hiring a professional genealogist to trace the lineage. It was known at that time that the Rev. Isaac Barton's father was Joshua Barton. A Joshua Barton was discovered in Massachusetts and it apparently was assumed to be the Joshua Barton who was the Rev. Isaac Barton's father. Since that time, however, additional research has shown that not to be the case. According to the records of the Tipperary (Ireland) Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, "Isaac Barton of Killaloe, son of Christopher and Dorothy Barton of Killaloe, married Sarah Vesey, daughter of Tobias and Anne Vesey of Limerick, 6th of 10th month 1705". In an account written by the Rev. Isaac Barton in 1821, he indicated that his "father was the 3rd or 4th son of a widow woman, who moved to Md. from some of the Northeastern states. She had 5 sons and one daughter if no more - Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joshua, Benjamin and Elizabeth who married John Carmuch. She afterwards married a man by the name of Jones by whom she had one son named Thomas. The two oldest, Abraham and Isaac, were bound to the shoemakers trade and never came to Md., as I have heard." The widow woman mentioned was Sarah Vesey Barton, who did marry Robert Jones. Isaac Barton in May, 1721 in Chester Co., PA. His will dated May 18, 1721, mentions his wife (Sarah) and his seven children (Abraham, Isaac, Mary, Elizabeth, Jacob, Joshua, and Benjamin). Again, there has been some confusion concerning the Rev. Isaac Barton's ancestors and information which appears to have been compiled in error will not be undone overnight. As mentioned in my previous reply, I am a member/officer of the Barton Family Association, a family group who are descendants from Isaac Barton and Sarah Vesey Barton. In 1988, a two-volume book (nearly 1,300 pages) was printed compiling this Barton family. Unfortunately, it is out of print. I am also a member of the Historical Preservation Committee of the Barton Family Association, and we are hopeful of updating and re-issuing a new book, hopefully within the next 5 years. 2. The Rev. Isaac Barton was the son of Joshua Barton (son of Isaac Barton & Sarah VESEY Barton) and Jane DUBART Barton (daughter of Mr. & Mrs. David Dubart. I am a descendant of the Rev. Isaac Barton & Keziah MURPHY Barton. I am also a member of the Barton Family Association which is made of descendants of Isaac & Sarah Barton. A two-volume book (nearly 1,300 pages) was printed in 1988 by the Barton Family Association which compiled the known descendants. I am also a member of the Barton Family Association Historical Preservation Committee. Although there has not been a great effort in updating since the "Barton Book" was printed, efforts are underway to see about updating and compiling/printing a new book - hopefully within the next 5 years. I can be contacted at JReyno6299@aol.com. Jim Reynolds
