Dear Betsy, I missed the earlier part of the messages about Margaret but I also was wondering about her. AGI, IGI and Family Treemaker have her listed at various points as Margaret Hunnewell, Honeywell and Stafford. Most of the paper trail that I have list her as Margaret Barton or as Margaret widow of Rufus. You have helped me a lot in the past with info on our family. Could you let me know what you find? I am still looking. Thanks Lea Barton
It would be alot easier if you would let me send you the whooe Famioy Group Sheet and in that way we can help each other. I have the Gorton book so have all of their genealogy. Send me you snail mail address. John BARTON was born in New York, on January 12, 1834. His mothers name was reportedly Tryphosia KEMP. John Married Hannah Smith May 6, 1856, in New York and they had the following children: 1. In a Gordon Co. GA cemetery book, I found in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery listing the following: Lewis, Phalba L. Barton 25 July 1829 1 Apr. 1900 Lewis, Joab 13 Feb. 1825 25 Mar. 1910 In the same listing next to Phalba is: JANE BARTON 9 Dec. 1795 29 Feb. 1884 According to an excerpt from a collection of newspaper clippings from Gordon Co., "She died at the home of her son-in-law, Joab Lewis." One of mother's cousins said she was the wife of Bailey Anderson BARTON and her maiden name was FIELD. His information was undocumented, however. Who were Phalba's parents and where was she born and married? Any clues and leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jane in Houston

As always, I'm still seeking descendants of Southern Bartons for the Barton Quest web site. There's a lot of data on the site now and I try to add new material each week. Thanks to all of you who have contributed. If any one else who hasn't submitted any data, but would like to, please email me or leave a message in the guest book in the Barton Bulletin Board section of the site. Also, I'm still trying to find the ancestors of Willis Barton of SC (Pendleton Dist.?). He md. Margaret Martin, probably in Hall Co. and moved to Winston Co., AL by 1859. He and Margaret lived there until they died. They had many children: James, Sarah, Jonathan, William, Delilah, Gilford, Nancy, Madison, Joseph, Margaret and Julia. Debby
I'm looking for Isaac Archer Barton, born 16 Jan 1848 in Ohio, married Catherine Elizabeth Tavenner 18 Jun 1872 in Iowa?, died 22 Aug 1925 in Los Angeles. Any clues to his family would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the source. I will look it up. As for Margaret, in the will, and other documents of Rufus, Margaret's name is listed as Stafford, and that she was born in Salisbury, England. I have not researched that as yet, but our family has always lived in Warwick, RI, has never heard of that surname in connection with Rufus wife Margaret. WFT makes many summary judgements. I have seen other members of this same line with incorrect dates and locations listed in the WFT. Thank you for your reply. I need to do some recently acquired attachments, but when that is completed, I would be happy to send my info to you. I do not want to submit my work to the net, as after we do all the work, they take the submissions and fill in the blanks with whatever, then put on CD's which are then sold. They are able to do this by claiming they have upgraded the information. Well, when the birth dates are put in a 30-40 year range, MANY errors can be made by assumptions. I'm sure noone wants to end up following an incorrect line as a result of such upgrading. Just a suggestion to be cautious when quoting that as a source. Your distant cousin, Betsey
Sandy and anyone else that might be interested, Well, as far as I know the Kimber W. Barton in Texas was not mine. I don't seem to be able to find much on him. This is what I rummaged up: In DeWitts Colony--Kimber W. Barton, native of U. S., married, two daughters, 10 July 1831. 8 Feb 1830, Kimber W. Barton, arrived 15 March 1829, married, three persons. In 1840--K. W. Barton was in Gonzales Co., pd. 1 poll tax, had 58 cattle, and 4 horses. on 9 Mar 1849--Kimber W. Barton and wife Margarete is found in Deed Bk A. p. 92 in Caldwell Co. In 1850 census--DeWitt Co., Family # 67: Kimber Barton 57 m farmer KY Margaret Barton 50 f IL Kimber L. Barton 13 m TX Henry Kelsoe 22 m TN I thought I had more info on him but I can't seem to lay my hands on it at this time. Samuel Barton-- Well, there may have been more than one: In the "Republic of Texas Pension Application Abstracts" is this information. "Samuel Barton, Indianola, Calhoun Co., 2 Dec 1874, approved. Age 67. Served as ship's carpenter on board schooner "Liberty" under Capt. William Brown and Capt. Jerry Brown. Participated in capture of war vessel "Pelicana". Wm. Allen, Jefferson Co., knew Barton shipped out of New Orleans abourd the "Liberty". Richard O. Hanion, Galveston Co., as to service. Jacob Hall, Calhoun Co., affirmed service. Barton was born near the city of Wilmington, Delaware, and immigrated to Texas on or about 15 Jan 1836." There was a Samuel Barton that rec'd a 1/3 League in Brazoria Co. (1st Class land grant for a single man). In the 1850 Brazos Co. census, Family # 68: (Note: This was copied from an already transcribed census) Samuel Barton 40 m KY Farming Eveline Barton 34 f TN William Barton 13 m TX Elizabeth Barton 11 f TX Mary Barton 9 f TX Wiley Barton 8 m TX Benalton (?) Sandy, I've been researching my Bartons for at least 10 years and still have not been able to break through to Elder B. Barton's parents or siblings. I suspect that he had a brother Samuel, who was b. ca. 1810 in KY. Samuel and his family are living in Brazos Co., TX in 1850. Elder B. and Samuel Barton both rec'd 1st class land grants in Brazoria Co. I thumbed through my 1850 Bartons and there were only two head of households that were born in KY. Samuel (wife,Evavline, was b. TN ca. 1816) and Kimber Barton b. ca. 1793 (Kimber's wife, Margaret, was b.IL ca. 1800). By 1850, the places that the head of the household stated they were born in are: SC, KY, TN, Germany (1), Ireland (1), AL, England (2), TX, NC, IN (1), and NY (1). Looking at family birth places in the 1850 TX census: there are SEVERAL that came from SC to GA to TX; TN to MO to TX; AL to TN to TX; TN to TX; TN to AL to TX; TN to MS to AL to TX; and SC to AL to TX. I have a hunch there was a connection with the CLEVELAND family, since according to a sworn affadavit Elder B. Barton was living with J. A. H. CLEVELAND in 1835. According to the book "Austin Colony Pioneers", under Washington County, there is a short bio. on the Horatio N. Cleveland family. It states that he was b. in AL in 1800 and came to Austin's Colony in Oct. 1835 with his wife and four sons. It also mentions a John Cleveland, W. H. Cleveland and J. A. H. Cleveland that all lived in Washington Co. at some point. If you think I may have some info that will help you, just ask, I'll be happy to share. At this point, I just don't know if we connect or not. Sandy I'm in Il and just beginning to trace my Barton line. You mentioned some of your family was in Kentucky. I know mine were there before coming to Pike county Illinois. Do you have anything about your family from Kentucky that I might check? Thanks, Bill
Yes I am very interested. Have been working on the R.I. Bartons for years and have FGS coming down the two male lines from Benjamin & Susannah. What do you have on Rowland Barton's family. I am trying to find the parents of John Barton born 1821 in Providence. I think its Catherine Arnold Barton and John. Have found her in Chicago but there are some generations missing from East Greenwich to Providence. I correspond with two who are related to this same line, one goes down thru William & Rhoda Carver Barton. I Am interested in the David Barton/Nancy (Philips) marriage. This probably occured in Maryland/Frontier Virginia (now WV) about 1780/90. This David would have died about 1810 probably in Belmont Co, Oh. Nancy is not shown in my GGGG grandparents Bible as a child, but is acknowledged as a daughter to my GGGG grandmother Jane, the wife of Evan Philips (Phillips) in her Will (Belmont Co, Oh) of 1825. David and Nancy had at least two children: George Barton, b-1808 married to Amanda and Jane Barton, b-1810, d-1890 married Samuel Barnes. Does anyone have info on these people? Then name Kimber is from Thomas BARTON b. abt. 1710 in Cecil, Maryland, d. Nov. 16, 1784 in New Britian Twp. Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary KIMBER Nov 6, 1784 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They had a son Kimber BARTON b. Nov 26 1746. The other children were Joseph, John, Sara, James, Pethany, Deborah, Eliazbeth, Eli, and Levi. I also have some samuel's but at a later date than yours and they were born in Ill. Do you have any other information on your Kimber Barton? Who his parents were? Siblings or anything you have. I would love swap information because with the name Kimber I know there is a connection here somewhere. Thanks for the reply and help and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
