    1. Re: [BARTON-L] My Barton line (from Rufus down)
    2. Dear Betsy, I have something on Rufus. According to one of the gentlemen on the Barton website there is a blurb to be found in "The life and times of Samuel Gorton, Adelos Gorton Philadelphia, 1907, page 165. I have no access to this book but from what it looks like Rufus had a brother named Roger. Rufus apparently was one of the first settlers of NY but had to leave because of persecution by the Dutch. As I said, I have no access to this source but you may have better luck. Let me know. Best always Lea Barton

    3. Tami, I have not corresponded with you for over a year. Glad to find you. I have studied all of the Bartons in MA, RI, VT and I have the IGI sheets for all of them. I chased John Nicholas around MA for years and I really felt I was related until I got the MA Census for 1850 & 1860 and it plainly states that my John Barton Jr. was born RI so back I came to R.I. and am busy compling FGS for all of Benjamin & Susannah Gorton's children and on down the line. I have studied the Oxford Bartons and did find even a John Barton m. Abigail Dana and they had a son John who m. Persis Eddy and came to Providence where they had another John III. I have never found any real fact that bound these families together, if so it has to be in England or Wales, way back. But yet my R.I. John went to Wrentham to marry and I have come to feel that therelll surely is a tie to both R.I. & MA Bartons. Maybe its just a feeling having worked so long and hard on them. Dorothy Scott Muirhead muirhead@inetnebr.com I am on the trail in Chicago now. Emily L. Barton m. Samuel A. Briggs and Catherine Arnold Barton went with them. Catherine m. John in 1816 in Providence and I sure hope this is one of my GGGGM's. Emily was the sister to a John, which I hope is mine. ---------- > Hello cousins, > Rosemary posted this site and place a letter written by Alvin Barton on it. > What a wonderful treat of information to find. 3. Bathsheba Barton and Nathaniel Pearson are my g-g-grandparents. Nathaniel was born in VA, 1804, child of John R. Pearson and Rebecca Wright. They came to Warren Co. KY from Brunswick Co. VA with a group of travelers in 1808. He married Bathsheba Barton, daughter of Bavister Barton and Elizabeth (?) in Warren Co. KY on 4 Feb 1825. She also was born in 1804, but in KY. They left Warren Co. KY with 2 young children, Alexander and Piety, and settled in Montgomery Co. IL. The 3rd child, John Bentley (my line) was born there in 1829. Bathsheba and Nathaniel are on both the 1830 and 1850 census of Montgomery Co. IL. I cannot find them anywhere in the 1840 census, but other researchers have suggested either Fayette or Clinton Cos. The other 6 children are: Mary, Henry, Elizabeth, Fanny, Leroy, and William. Bathsheba died 1856/57; Nathaniel, with Leroy and William, moved back to Warren Co. KY --- they appear on the 1860 census. Nathaniel can also be found on the 1870 and 1880 enumerations. I have more info and will be happy to share on Bartons and Pearsons.
