    1. [BARTON-L] Abraham Barton (1706- ? ) Ireland to PA
    2. Looking for information concerning Abraham Barton, first child of Isaac Barton and Sarah Vesey Barton. Abraham was born in Ireland on the 6th day of the 8th month, 1706. His birth is recorded by the Tipperary meeting, Register of Births, Religious Society of Friends, Historical Library, Dublin. While we have translated this as being August 6th, it may be that it should have been October 6th, 1706. At any rate, Abraham came to America with his parents and siblings. They are recorded as being in Philadelphia by the 29th of the 2nd month of 1715 and by a couple of months later were in Chester Co., PA. He married Lydia Simpson, daughter of George Simpson of Chester Co., PA, on the 12th day of the 5th month, 1729, at the Chester Meeting. He evidently left Chester Co., PA in 1734 after charges were made against him "for absconding from his creditors and drinking to excess". We know nothing more about Abraham. Can anyone help? I'm also curious about the months. I have seen reference to March being the first month. Was that the typical way calendars were started in the 1700's - with March being the first month of the year?

    2. I think you are right about the brother Roger. I read something on the web about a year ago about Roger, and Rufus was mentioned in it. I may have saved the site in my favorite places, it is so large by now, i hope some of it didn't get lost. If I find it, I'll send it to you. Thanks As Ever, Betsey

    1. Re: [BARTON-L] Ohio/Iowa BARTONS
    2. Dorothy Muirhead
    3. Thanks, I saw this. My John Barton lived and worked in Milford, Mass. I have the 1850 & 1860 Census where it states he was born in R.I. All of my wasted time chasing John Nicholas Barton in Mass. I really worked hard on his family. I have all my John's children and his daughters married Orison Taft of Milford a shoemaker and one married a Walker (Henry) also a Shoemaker. And now I am very sure that John Barton that m. Catherine Arnold is his parents. Now if I can just find his father who will probably not be a John. Remember the sheet my father left me said "A son of Rowland and a brother of Rufus had descendants who went to Providence." Taking 1816 back 20 years would be 1796 so going back another 20 1776 anoither 20 1756 and another 20 1736. Now if I am correct Rowland's children were born in the 1740's well anyway none of this makes sense. I will go over the IGI sheets again for the birth of Catherine's John. Thanks for listing. 1. [BARTON-L] My Barton line (from Rufus down)
    2. Kim Wory
    3. Hi! I am also descended from this line down through William and Rhoda Carver Barton to their son Robert C. Barton like Christi Brogan and also have a few questions. (I may still be having problems sending the correct format of e-mail messages to BARTON-L -please send advice! 1. I attempted to contact "Dana K Berry" (familytreemker.com/users/b/e/r/Dana-K-Berry/GEN2-0001htm ((quoted by Christie) to clarify a few things. The e-mail address contained on above page for Dana Berry is TDBerry@MSN.com On Jan 13 I e-mailed from the link on the page. I received a reply that the person who received it (Deanna Berry) was not aware of any BARTONS in her family. So I went back to the page(1/14/99) and sent an e-mail directly and did not use the link. I have yet to receive a reply. Has anyone been in contact with this person? 2. The above mentioned page does contain tons of info. It does list Margaret Hunniwell (as questioned by BBPERRA) but I did not find a source for this person. 3. This page also lists children of William and Rhoda Carver Barton as : William b. 1771 Benjamin b. 1773 George Washington b. 1776 Daniel Henry John Anna Sara Christie includes Children of William Barton and Rhoda Carver as 10 i. William7 Barton, born December 16, 17717; 11 ii. Benjamin Barton7, born December 20, 17737. 12 iii. George Washington Barton, born February 06, 1776 in Providence, RI; died 1790.:.. 13 iv. Daniel Barton7, born July 20, 17787; died April 09, 17807. * 14 v. Robert Carver Barton, born December 19, 1782 in Providence, RI; died September 1824 in OH. (info above from Dana Berry site does not list Robert C. Barton as a descendant) 15 vi. John Brown Barton, born April 03, 17857; died 1869. He married Hannah West. 16 vii. Anna Maria Barton7, born April 05, 17887; died 1868. She married Apollos Cushman June 21, 18097. 17 viii. Sarah Barton, born August 30, 17907; died 1866. My questions are on Henry, Daniel and Benjamin. I do have a 1 pg. copy of "Providence births" (from "Vital Record of Rhode Island 1636-1850 by James N. Arnold") with Barton as the last entry on this 1 page (pg 211)(do not have next page) and there is a Benj.,(1773) Daniel (1778)and Henry (1780)listed, but they along with George Washington(1776) and Robert(1782 - last entry) do not have the ", of William and Rhoda" beside their name like William b. 1771 does. But since they are listed under the name Barton beneath William b. 1771 I am assuming they were listed in family groups. Is this correct? Where is more info on Benjamin and Henry? Daniel died as a child (d. 1780) (above) Combining the names from both lists above gives you: William, Benjamin, George Washington, Daniel, Robert C., Henry, John, Anna, and Sara In 1993 I had a genealogist in RI do some searching for me. Below are the names of her children contained in the will of Rhoda Carver Barton (mother of children in question) this genealogist sent to me. "The will of Rhoda (Carver) Barton dated 2 Sept 1837, codicil dated 29 Sept 1841, proved 4 Jan 1842, mentions her sons, John B. Barton, William Barton deceased leaving unnamed children, and Robert C. Barton who has unnamed children"; the last two sons are mentioned only in the codicil; two daughters, Anna Cushman, wife of Apllos Cushman and Sarah Allen, wife of Herman B. Allen. She of course DID NOT sent me "the last two sons who were only mentioned in the codicil". I do not have access to it either. Has anyone else found who these two sons were? My information (from a genealogy done by the Rhode Island Hosp. Trust Co.)contains all children mentioned above plus George Washington Barton b. 1776. & I am still missing at least one if George Washington is one of the "unnamed". So who are the other two sons mentioned in the codicil? Benjamin b. 1771? George Washington b. 1776? (Daniel b. 1778 d. 1780 would not be one) or Henry b.? Are they all proven sons and someone besides Da niel died leaving the other two to be named? I would love to hear from anyone who could clear this up! Sorry this e-mail was so long. Thanks again Kim

    3. Boy, do I feel silly! After posting the rules I looked closely at what I had sent and realized that I gave the wrong information for unsubscribing from the lists! Each list has it's own unsubscribe address, so for those of you out there confused, here is the real deal: To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please send email to:(listname) -l-request@rootsweb.com (for list mail) or (listname)-d-request@rootsweb.com (for digest mail) replacing the (listname) with the name of your list, with the body message of UNSUBSCRIBE For example, to unsubscribe from the Barton list you would send your email to: barton-l-request@rootsweb.com or barton-d-request@rootsweb.com Sorry about the mixup and my sillyness!
