I am searching for information about the family of David Barton, for who Barton County, MO. was named. I have this information from a bio of Clinton McMickle of Cherokee County, KS. " his grandmother was a Barton, a Spanish lady, for whose father was named Barton County, MO. and "David Barton was the first Missouri senator after statehood." It did not say that David Barton lived in Barton County. Barton County was formed in 1855. Does anyone have knowledge of this Barton daughter that married a McMickle? I am sorry that I do not have a location or date for the marriage but I would guess the area might have been MO or KY. Thank you for your time. Dore' Sutton Michigan dsutton@voyager.net
The Barton Historical Society has forwarded an index for their 1980 Reunion Edition of the Barton Bulletin. The Indexis located at the following url: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/5277/brtnbltn80.htm
Hi again Dore' I saw your post and don't have information myself. I did come across a mention of David Barton the Senator in another person's post. Maybe they would know about the daughter you're researching. I know it's a shot in the dark but may be helpful. The email address was tcady@whitemtns.com. You may already have this info but thought I'd pass it along. Good Luck, Bill Barton

Hello all! I want to thank each and every one of you for subscribing to this Rootsweb genealogy list. It is time now for a brief word from our sponsor :) List guidelines: All Rootsweb lists cannot accept HTML or Rich Text (RTF) formatted email or attachments, please make sure all email is in plain text format before sending to the list. If you wish to respond to the entire list, you will need to replace the personal name in the to field with the list address, otherwise your response will only go to the person who sent the original message. If you have a problem with another list member, please do not post to the list but rather send email to the listowner and we will handle it off list. DO NOT forward Chain letters, off-topic posts, or virus alerts to the list. There are two sites listed below that deal with these hoaxes. Please check one of them and then email the listowner if you are still concerned. If there is cause for real alarm, he/she will address the list. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html http://www.cheyenne.com/virusinfo/ DO NOT forward other people's mail, email or copyrighted information to the list at any time without specific permission of the author (and clearance from the listowner) This prevents "information stealing" and hurt feelings on the list. DO NOT attempt to sell, advertise or distribute products to the list members. Doing so is cause for immediate removal from the list. If you have a genealogy book you have written that you wish to let people know about, please alert the listowner for further instructions. If anyone has issues with the above rules, please feel free to contact me via email and we can discuss it. If there are large "uprisings" about some of the rules, we will vote on action on the list, but it must first be discussed with the listowner off-list. Hi Nathan! This is an interesting note you sent me! Unfortunately, I don't know anything more about the Bartons than what I have listed, except for spouses and dates of the children. I'm still trying to trace John Barton's actual birth location (although I presume it to be in Canada) and also that of Joseph. Do you know when your great-grandfather Joseph was born or where he was born? FYI, These items have been removed from the Ebay site. Here is the letter from their Associate General Council explaining their policy. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 4, 1999 eBay has recently been contacted by citizens who have expressed concern over the fact that several historical tombstones have appeared for sale on the eBay site. We share your concern, and will not permit these items to be sold on our site. This release is intended to answer several questions that have been raised in connection with these items. First, eBay does not sell or possess the items on its site. eBay is a venue where users post items for sale, and sellers complete transactions directly with buyers. eBay does not, and has never, possessed any historical tombstone. Second, as an Internet Service Provider, eBay cannot and does not pre-screen items posted on its site. While eBay rules strictly prohibit the posting of illicit items such as tombstones, it cannot guarantee that all its users will abide by these rules in posting items for sale. When eBay learns that an illicit item is on its site, it promptly removes the item. However, with approximately 2 million items for sale at any given time, and with over 250,000 new items placed on the site each day, some illicit items may go unnoticed for several days. We depend on our community to work with us in locating and identifying illicit items so that we can quickly remove them. In this case, eBay has promptly removed every tombstone brought to its attention, informed the sellers that such markers are not allowed on the site, and refunded all fees in connection with these auctions to ensure that eBay has in no way received money for this activity. To discourage future listings of tombstones on the site, eBay will also be posting rules on its site shortly regarding the sale of artifacts which will specifically inform users that the sale of historical tombstones is illegal in many states and is prohibited on eBay. eBay has received information that at least some of the items brought to our attention are not tombstones, but historical grave markers given to families of Civil War veterans. In many cases, these grave markers were never actually used as grave markers, but kept by families as mementos. In those instances, the markers are not stolen property, and if they were never used as for tombstones their sale may be lawful. eBay is investigating whether these items can be lawfully sold, and will post information on the site when it makes a final decision. eBay will be contacting law enforcement and encouraging authorities to investigate whether historical marker posted on its site was stolen. eBay will cooperate fully in any investigation of illegal activity, and will provide records to law enforcement on the sellers of any illegal item. eBay appreciates the efforts of those who have contacted us concerning these postings. Concerned law enforcement authorities or interested citizens may contact Associate General Counsel Rob Chesnut at (408) 558-5948 if they have further questions on this matter. Donna: I am most interested in this posting because I have a John Barton born in New Yourk January 12, 1834, whose first wife, according to family records was Hannah Smith. He married second Maryette Larkin, in Michigan I think, and lived in both Homer, Calhoun County, Michigan, and then in Stanton, Montcalm County Michigan, where he died October 17, 1877. I have visited his grave. These details are close enough to deserve a close look. Any chance my John Barton could be the one you have listed? Ted Holden
These auctions were all pulled by eBay yesterday as a result of our complaints. I'm looking for information on the following people: Joseph Barton married to Mary Goocher/Gorchee probably from Canada. They had a son named John Barton born 1808 or possibly 1812 and died 11 Jan 1895. John is listed as a native of Three Rivers, Canada and later lived in Strafford, Vermont. John was first married to Azuba Benne/Benney. Married second to Melinda Cota (native of Quebec) on 9 Oct 1875 in Strafford, VT. John and Azuba Barton had several children: Rosette, John, William, Julia, Margaret, Peter, Charles and Ma(r)y Jane. The children were born in various locations around Vermont. John and William both served in the Civil War and were prisoners at Andersonville Prison, where William died. I have many more dates for these people, as well as spouses if you can connect any of these names to people you're searching for. I would love to share information! Thanks in advance!
