I can document my Barton line from South Carolina to Georgia, then Alabama, then Yalabusha County, Mississippi. Does this help? Jerry Tyson Barton
I am doing research on my Barton line. The known information first starts with Nancy Barton, who was born prior to 1780 and married ___? Crawford. They were living in KY when one of their children was born in 1799. They had one known son, Thomas Barton Crawford who was born 10 Nov 1799 in KY. Thomas Barton Crawford married Margaret Poe, 1827 in Clark county, Ohio. Thomas Barton Crawford, migrated to Auglaize county, Ohio and died there on 23 Sep 1859. Supposely, according to family oral history, Thomas Barton Crawford, came with his mother Nancy Barton Crawford and his father ---- Crawford along with a James Galloway and settled near Xenia Ohio. The Galloway family was connected to Nancy Barton, via her sister marrying into the Galloway family of KY but this has not been proven. Any information on Nancy Barton would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Joe Zimmerman jtexas32@aol.com

Well folks I messed up when I sent you the link for the Surname Resource page! I guess in this particular case capitalization does count! Documents relating to the Revolutionary History of the State of New Jersey, Vol II 1778. p. 8 states that Mrs. Barton...died of the Samll-Pox in her 48th year. It continues "she had been driven with 7 small children from their estate in Sussex County...whilst the Lieutenant Colonel was Prisoner at Weathersfield in Connecticut. >From Annapolis Co. Probate Wills, Vol I, page 198: Last will & testament of Joseph Barton of town of Digby dated 15 Feb 1788: wife Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. Wm. Brownjohn of NY; eldest son, Benjamin. Can anyone tell me when Joseph Barton married Elizabeth? Since he went to Digby after the war, I assume that it was some time shortly after the first Mrs. Barton died. Does anyone know who the first Mrs. Barton was? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Bambi Dingman - Histcreatr@aol.com
I have very little on the Bartons other than my Margaret Barton born abt 1686, daughter of William Barton. She married William Hungerford, JR. Their daughter Elizabeth Hungerford married John Neale in MD. Paul Parker, Lomita, CA
Glad you enjoyed it. Its always fun to share. Good luck with your own search. Lea
I do not have a birth date, however, she married John Calvin BEARDEN on 6/25/1865. I do know that she was from Irondale. That is all the information I seem to can find.

Do you have a birth date for your Mary Katherine Barton? Mine was born 18 September 1833. Her parents were Gilbert Barton 9/13/1801-1/1/1891 and Katherine LeFever 11/12/1832-11/12/1832.
I have been searching for documented details on my Barton line for many years, and have had some success on the recent generations. However, I loose the line when I get back to South Carolina. Others searching this same line put forth the theory that my line was from the backcountry Bartons of South Carolina where few, if any records were kept. At any rate, I have run into a brick wall about 1750 in researching this line. My Barton line summary follows working backwards from my father: Jerry Benard Barton (b. Comanche Co TX in 1901, d. in California in 1984) Green Thomas Barton (b. Trinity Co TX in 1862, d. in Eastland Co TX in 1949) Jeremiah J. Barton (b. Jefferson Co AL in 1820, d. Navarro Co TX in Abt 1880) Isaac Barton (b. SC in 1799, d. Trinity Co TX in 1865) John Barton (b. Laurens Co SC abt 1765, d. Jefferson Co AL abt 1832) Isaac Barton (b. Newberry Co SC abt 1745, d. Jefferson Co AL abt 1825) Data on the last two generations is very soft. Would appreciate hearing from other Barton researchers that could help me find my lost generations. I am always willing to exchange what I have accumulated for what you have that might assist me. Jerry Tyson Barton Georgetown, Texas
Ok here is my Barton and the little information I have: Mary Catherine BARTON b.? married John Vincent Wilkie, I am assuming they had one child named Isom. John Vincent died in the Civil War. They had several children: George Matthew b 1866, twins Alfred and Albert b 1868, James Thomas b 1876, Charley b 1879, Andrew (my great grandfather) b 1881, Willy b 1885 d 1890, and a family bible list a Mamie b 1902 d 1903. I would like very much to find my BARTON ancestors. Any help would be much appreciated. Thankyou and Happy Hunting Emily
Hi folks, Well, just wanted to write and thank everyone for joining the Barton list! We are over 250 strong today (264 to be exact) and I'm thrilled to have all of you. Since there are so many of us, I suggest we all try posting our lines again to see if anyone else out there may connect. I'll start it off by posting mine a little later today. Rootsweb has recently introduced a new set of web pages to help make life easier on those who use their sites. They are called the "Surname Resource" pages and the Barton one is located at: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/b/a/Barton/ I invite everyone to check the page out as it is a great place to jump off from in search of Barton information. The page includes search engines for the master surname list, transcription projects like the ship transcribers guild, Genweb archives and other records, and an archive search engine for this list. For those who haven't heard, the LDS church has made part of their genealogical databases internet capable. Many many people started their research at the local LDS library, and now you can do it from your own home. To log on to the LDS site, go to http://www.familysearch.org Also, I am in the process of updating the web pages for the list and welcome your comments, suggestions, links and/or queries to add. If you haven't visited the page, please do at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cbrogan/barton.html If there is something there you don't like, now is the time to speak up! :) One of the big changes that will be taking place is that I will be moving the guestbook from an outside host to a local site. This will cut down on lag time between. Also, if there are those out there on list who either don't know how or haven't the time but would like to have their lines of research posted to the internet, please contact me and I'll be glad to help. The more we can share with others, the more others will share with us :) Again, thank all of you for being members of the Barton mailing list, and good luck in your searches! Patricia, I am interested in your reference to Daniel Barton in Monongalia Co. VA. My Daniel Barton from VA died in Northumberland Co. PA in 1809. I wish I knew more. Maybe we will all connect some day! Dorothy--None of those names (Except Edward) ring a bell but I have a lot of Barton material to go through. Mine came from Roger of Westchester Co. NY, then VA, to PA (Thomas, Daniel, Elisha). Roger's line is in the NEGH Magazine (Vol. 106 & 107). Will keep my eye open. Does anyone have any information concerning William A. Barton (b. 1842) of Macon Co. TN? I belive that William was the son of Dobson Barton. William had several children, Martin Mary M., William W, Anna H., Edward D., Eva Francis, Frank Leslie, and Joseph T. Several of the children later moved to the Columbia MO area. If any of these names and locations look familiar I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Ken Storms
