Hi, Does this site have anything to do with the surname Banton? Thanks Teri
My mother and I had a very productive trip to Bedford Co, PA. One area I focused on was my Barton line which I had more folklore than fact before I went. I was able to find documentation to verify. Here is outline of our line starting with Elijah: 1. Elijah Barton + Mary Barton 2. Elisha Barton + Anne Runyon 3. Joel Barton + Julia Hixon 4. Elisha Barton + Rebecca Walters 5. Harry L. Barton + Margaret Whited 6. Roy H. Barton + Olive G. Herman 7. Cynthia Barton + J. F. Kasten, Jr. I would love to hear from relatives. I have much I gathered I've yet to sort through and did not have time to work on the female lines. It was a great mother/daughter trip-our first of what we hope to make an annual event. Melanie
A random note for PA researchers. Alfred M. Barton age 26 son of Edward of Chester, PA married Carrie May Rutledge age 22 at Portsmouth NH 15 November 1899

I have been trying to find out where my Barton family comes from and have not been able to find a thing. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! :-) Dock Marshall Barton was born in Indiana in 1844 or 1855 depending on which source is accurate. Dock married Emmaline Christopher and had the following children: Herbert, Wilbur, Oran, Walter I., Della, Blanche and Dorothy plus 2 more who had died prior to the 1900 census. At least one child, Oran was born in Summitville, Madison Co., Indiana abt 1892. By 1920 at least Wilber, Herbert, Oran and Walter were in the Vigo Co., Indiana area. I am assuming the rest of the family is here too but haven't been able to find them. Dock is burried in Vigo Co., IN, dying in 1939. As are Blanche and Emmaline and the boys. According to the Census, Dock's parents were both born in Indiana but I have no idea if it was in the Summitville area or somewhere else. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas? I am not sure if this is the place to ask or not. Mo mother recently made contact with someone from Missouri that was researching the same line of Bartons that I am searching. My fathers name is Jesse R Barton, originally from Missouri. his father was Joseph Carl Barton. Jesse had 2 full brothers: James and Joseph Barton. The person my mother talked with has an active website and has researched back to an Edward Barton. I would LOVE to hear from this person, all I know is that this person is in Missouri. If you are in this group please email me. Also, those of you that currently have sites with Barton info, I can't speak for everyone in the group, but I for 1 would LOVE to see your websites. Donna, I have noticed your name before and wondered if you grew up in Oceana Co., Michigan by chance? If you are the daughter of Virginia and Edgar Barton, we would be related. Steven Bassett---Saw your question to Lea re William Barton, b ca 1790. My g-g-grandfather fits that criterion. What else do you know about your William? We both know that "William" was a common name for the Bartons, but maybe.....Clark Barton
Be sure to let me know if you find conflicting information. I'm sure ready to change my mind if the documentation gives other or different information. Keep in touch. Kathy
